The 92nd ST Y (1395 Lexington Avenue, NYC - 212-415-5500) presents JAZZ IN JULY, running from Tuesday, July 22nd through Thursday, July 31st. Featuring the sounds of Hoagy Carmichael, Leonard Bernstein, Miles Davis, Dick Hyman, Sarah Vaughan and Fred Astaire. Celebrate Bill Charlap's 10th anniversary as Artistic Director as he returns with more than three dozen world-class jazz artists to celebrate the 30th annual Jazz in July Festival. What better reason to stay in the city for the summer than to hear Jazz in July founder Dick Hyman plus beloved jazz greats Jimmy Greene, Jeremy Pelt, Ken Peplowski and more! NYC: THE LOUIS ARMSTRONG CENTENNIAL BAND
The Louis Armstrong Centennial Band aka David Ostwald's Gully Low Jazz Band performs at BIRDLAND(315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Gully Low Jazz Band (also known as the Louis Armstrong Centennial Band) breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 12th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/ vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more! There is a $25 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
NYC: HARVEY MASON CHAMELEON AT THE BLUE NOTE
Drummer Harvey Mason Chameleon will perform atTHE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday through Wednesday, July 28th through 30th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. He is joined by Special Guest: Chris Turner on vocals, Yuki Hirano on Keyboards, Samora Pinderhughes on Keyboards/ Organ, Burniss Earl Travis on Bass and Kamasi Washington on Saxophone. Masterful Harvey Mason more than just a drummer. His precision time keeping and versatility have placed him among THE most in-demand and most recorded session drummers of all-time. His tumbling tom-tom fills and the lickity slick synchronization between his hi-hat cymbals, snare and bass drums are instantly recognizable signatures. He's been hired by everyone from Barbra Streisand to James Brown to Mary J to Herbie Hancock to Jennifer Hudson to Frank Sinatra to John Legend to the London Symphony Orchestra. He has won four 1st place plaques from Modern Drummer magazine's annual studio poll and has been the first call drummer for the Academy Awards ceremonies on 25 occasions. He's also composed and written songs recorded by artists ranging from Nancy Wilson , Mary J. Blige, Notorius Big and T.I. There is a $20-$35 cover.
NYC: THE JAZZ MASTERS QUARTET AT BIRDLAND
Four of the leading instrumentalists in jazz come together as "The Masters Quartet" at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Tuesday through Saturday, July 29th through August 2nd with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Saxophonist Dave Liebman, a 2010 "NEA Jazz Master," learned directly from jazz icons, spending extensive periods as a member of groups led by Miles Davis and Elvin Jones. As a leader, Liebman has been associated since 1970 with a succession of extraordinary groups from Open Sky Trio to Lookout Farm to Quest, each of which has framed a distinct phase of his musical evolution. Master bassist Buster Williams is an empathetic sideman known for his subtle sense of swing. He began his professional career in 1960 with saxophonist Jimmy Heath, going on to play with jazz legends Miles Davis, Sarah Vaughan, Herbie Hancock, Mary Lou Williams, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon and many others. Legendary drummer Billy Hart has been a fixture on the jazz scene for over fifty years, performing and recording along the way with jazz legends Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock, Stan Getz and Miles Davis. Newest addition to the group, pianist Billy Childs, apprenticed with jazz legends Freddie Hubbard and J.J. Johnson in the 1970s and 80s before striking out on a solo career that would find him deftly melding the worlds of jazz and classical music and earning 10 Grammy nominations and 3 Grammy awards. Along the way, Childs has collaborated with a diverse array of artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Sting, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Detroit Symphony, the Kronos Quartet, Wynton Marsalis and Chris Botti. There is a $40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
NYC: TIA FULLER QUARTET AT DIZZYS
Tia Fuller Quartet will perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Tuesday & Wednesday, July 29th & 30th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Tia Fuller is a respected bandleader (and Dizzy's Club regular) with four critically acclaimed albums to her name. As a saxophonist, she has performed with numerous bands, including the Ralph Peterson Septet, T.S. Monk Septet, and the Wycliffe Gordon Septet. Fuller is also part of pop icon Beyonce's all-female touring band. There is a $30 cover.

TORONTO: THE SPANDETTES AT THE JAZZ BISTRO
The Spandettes, a fiercely energetic disco band hailing from Toronto, will perform atTHE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Wednesdays, July 2nd, 16th & 30th at 8:00 pm. Drawing inspiration from jazz-funk, soul and rock-steady, their original music combines a classic 70's disco approach with a fresh and contemporary edge. The band's leading ladies, Alex Tait, Maggie Hopkins and Lizzy Clarke lead this dynamic 10-piece outfit through musical terrain that balances sugary sweet vocal stylings, air-tight horn passages and hard hitting grooves from their stellar rhythm section. Inspired by the infectious sunshine melodies and slick 2-step boogie grooves of The Pointer Sisters, The Jones Girls, and Destiny's Child, The Spandettes carry on the tradition of delivering soulful harmonies backed by some of the brightest young musicians from Toronto's jazz scene.
