CABARET FOLKS ON TWITTER YOU SHOULD FOLLOW

New in both the newsletter - with a follow up on the website, a special section featuring cabaret folks who you should follow on TWITTER (besides me ). These are performers I am following who provide pithy comments and news on a regular basis, and who will not inundate you with TWITS of a political, commercial or pornographic nature. Inclusion in this list will be made with the permission or at the request of the "twitee" and if you would like to be included, follow me on TWITTER just sign up as a follower and then send me a DIRECT MESSAGE with your request.

Oh, one more thing, if you request to be included I will review your recent postings to make sure that they meet the criteria above. Abuse of this offering will result in removal from the FREE website listing. (You don't have to be a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE to be included, but of course that would be a nice gesture on your part.)

NYC: ALGONQUIN SALON THIS SUNDAY: "THE FIRST TIME!"

THIS SERIES IS A 2009 MAC AWARD NOMINEE
---------------
2009 MAC AWARD NOMINEE Mark Janas' Algonquin Salon usually takes place on Sunday nights from 7:00 to 10:00 pm in the lobby of THE ALGONQUIN HOTEL (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-419-9331). The Salon is a weekly event in which singers, writers and musicians share their talent with each other and audience members in the lobby of the Algonquin Hotel. Salon Secretary Peter Napolitano reports that on Sunday, April 26th, guest co-host will be singer/songwriter Hector Coris who will lean an evening of material which is some kind of "first" for each performer: the first time you're singing it, the first song you've written or ever sang in public, or a song from your first show. Or it could be material that reminds you of a real-life first experience - your first date, your first summer in NY, etc. Hector chose this theme because on May 5th he will be premiering his first solo cabaret show at Don't Tell Mama. Remember, any material, on or off-theme, is always welcome at the Algonquin Salon. There is no cover and no minimum.

FESTIVAL ISSUE of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE THIS WEEKEND

We will be publishing a special FESTIVAL ISSUE of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE over the weekend. I have details on four huge cabaret related events coming up that simply won't fit in a regular newsletter: THE CABARET SONGWRITERS SHOWCASE OF 2009 in Boston, May 1st through 3rd; 7TH ANNUAL ORLANDO CABARET FESTIVAL in Florida, May 1st through 17th; CABARET FEST 2009 in Provincetown, May 15th through 17th; and the ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL in Australia, June 5th through 20th. And I will drop in at the candy store down the street today to purchase a lottery ticket, hoping to win a few million so that I can go to every one of these events to report back. I figure, if God wants me to win, I only need buy one ticket!

THE REPRISE ROOM AT DILLON'S HAS CLOSED

THE REPRISE ROOM AT DILLON'S (245 West 54th Street, NYC ) has closed - Booking Manager (I guess we should say "former") Collette Black reports that last Friday she was told by the owners, without advance warning, that the club would be closing for one week to put in a new stage and that she should cancel the shows accordingly. She spent the weekend franticly rebooking the performances to other venues. But on Sunday night, a work crew arrived to take tables and chairs to auction and a sign saying "closed" was taped to the door. The 2009 MAC AWARD NOMINATE review "What's The Point?!?" scheduled for tonight has been cancelled. This is the second time that Collette has had a venue she was booking close without warning - the first was ROSE'S TURN where she handled the cabaret events for several years, and closed with just one week's notice two years ago.
