Cabaret favorited Andrea Marcovicci brings her show Moonlight Cocktail - Stork Club to THE GARDENIA(7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Wednesday, May 29th and Friday & Saturday, June 21st & 22nd, all shows at 9:00 pm. The show celebrates that bygone era of sophisticated New York nightlife of dining and dancing at The Stork Club and the El Morocco. And at Tony's, Spivy's and The Blue Angel where the singers that enthralled you became household names like Mabel Mercer, Bobby Short, Julie Wilson, Hildegarde, Portia Nelson, Billie Holiday and more. Andrea's nostalgic spin through the forties and fifties, when an evening began at one club before winding down with fine champagne at another, is filled with her unique insight, charm and wit. She reveals the backstage stories while capturing the joi de vivre of the era. Eileen Barnett brings her show 'You Must Believe in Spring' toSTERLING'S AT THE FEDERAL (5303 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA - 818-754-8700) on Sunday, June 23rd at 7:00 pm. Musical Director, John Boswell; Director, Kirsten Chandler. Ms. Giorgio is now a regular staple in and around the San Diego entertainment scene, as well as Los Angeles. She is used to playing piano and singing piano bar style but with this show Karen will be joined by noted musical director John Boswell. There is a $28-$38 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum. Boston favorite Sophia Bilides brings her new show 'A Little Sondheim' to FIRST PARISH CHURCH (35 Church Street, Watertown Square, MA - ) on Saturday, June 22nd at 8:00 pm. She is joined by musical director Doug Hammer. Sophia will celebrate the solstice and enjoy the lighter side of Stephen Sondheim: songs full of grace, wit, humor, and shtick, from his musicals (A Little Night Music, Follies, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Company, Sunday In The Park With George, etc.), films (Dick Tracy, The Seven Percent Solution), and novelties (The Mad Show, The Frogs). Sherie Rene Scott is back, front and center, for a limited two-week run of the highly-anticipated return engagement of her acclaimed show, Piece Of Meat at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) with performances on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays at 7:00 pm and Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 pm, June 17th through 29th, with additional late shows on Friday & Saturday, June 28th & 29th at 11:00 pm. Piece of Meat is an exhilarating show about human desires - carnal, culinary and otherwise - and Ms. Scott explores her singular storytelling and musical abilities with songs by Joni Mitchell, Paul McCartney, Talking Heads, Pete Townshend, Annie Lennox, Dire Straights, Buddy Holly, Kate Bush and Noah & The Whale, as well as original compositions by Music Director Todd Almond. The show features Musical Staging by Michele Lynch and Direction by Lear Debessonett. A multiple Tony Award loser/Obie and Lortel Award winner, Ms Scott's work off and on Broadway covers an array of well-loved productions including her own Everyday Rapture (co-written with Dick Scanlan), Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, The Little Mermaid, Landscape of the Body, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Aida, Rent & The Who's Tommy. With Kurt Deutsch, she co-founded Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records, receiving Grammy Awards and nominations, plus a 2006 Drama Desk Award for dedication to the preservation of musical theatre through cast recordings. Patti Issues will be performed by Ben Rimalower at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Saturdays in June at 9:30 pm. Patti Issues mark's Rimalower's debut as a playwright and performer, after serving as the director of numerous Off-Broadway plays, concerts and all-star benefits (and blogging for the Huffington Post). With a mix of comic irreverence, stark candor and show-biz bravado, Patti Issues poignantly explores the challenges facing LGBT parents and children while shining unique light on gay men's time-old obsessions with divas. When Ben Rimalower was eight years old, his father came out of the closet and embarked on a drug-fueled tear that left his family in tatters. Amid the chaos of his young life, Ben found comfort - like so many gay boys before him and after - in musical theater, and specifically in the transportive voice of Broadway star Patti LuPone. Vickie Phillips brings her show "Songs for Summer Nights" to DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Saturday, June 22nd, Saturday, July 6th and Tuesday, July 9th, all shows at 7:15 pm. The show is directed by Bob Ost with musical direction by Tracy Stark. "Songs for Summer Nights" will feature musical selections from composers including Sheldon Harnick, Maltby & Shire, Craig Carnelia, and Bob Ost. Vickie Phillips is a familiar face on the Manhattan cabaret scene, as an award-winning singer and actress. Her off-Broadway credits include leading roles in Merry-Go-Round, A Safe Light, Far Side of the Moon, Musically Speaking, and Together with Music. She performed to standing-room-only audiences in concerts at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Her very first cabaret show received the Back Stage Bistro Award for "Outstanding Achievement in Cabaret." Ms. Phillips went on to be nominated for a MAC Award for her concept and performance in the musical revue American Cabaret: European Roots. Bob Ost, director, has been nominated for MAC Awards for "Best Special Material" for "A Quiet Little Christmas," "Best Revue" for "Not Quite What You Expected," and "Best CD" for "Everybody's Gettin' into the Act." The 6th Season of The Concerts for City Greens, free outdoor concert series, continues on Wednesday, June 26th at 6:30 pm (Rain date: Thursday, June 27th at 6:30 pm.) at TUDOR CITY GREENS OARK (enter at Tudor City Place between East 42nd and East 43rd Streets) with "Summer Sambas, Showmen & Sirens ," and will feature professional performers from Broadway and the New York City cabaret, jazz, and classical scene. With glowing reviews in hand, cabaret songstress Teresa Fischer reprises HIP TO BE HAPPY at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) in June! The final encore performance for HIP TO BE HAPPY is scheduled for Monday, June 24th at 7:00 pm. In this lively musical hour, Teresa aka "Lady T" shows us how to keep our spirits high by always looking on the bright side - even when there doesn't seem to be one. Lady T has assembled an entertaining and eclectic array of songs from standards by Cole Porter and Sammy Fain to pop tunes by Christine Lavin, Ann Hampton Calloway and Mary Chapin Carpenter plus some newly discovered musical gems. Cabaret veteran Paul Chamlin is the musical director and one-man band for this fun evening that features special musical arrangements by Paul Chamlin, Andrew David Sotomayor, and James Pfister.
