This reading is open to the public but reservations are a must. The wily and "unsellable" Aesop is purchased to marry the feisty maid Lycaena. But a fable here, a fable there, and they both find themselves in the palace of the rich and powerful King Croesus! However, the King of Egypt wants his gold and it's up to Aesop to save the day and foil the schemes of the King’s conniving courtesan, Delphinia and her beefcake balladeer, Philocalus. AESOP AND COMPANY is supported, in part, by the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, and by the ASCAP Foundation Irving Caesar Fund, the BMI Foundation, the Barbara Bell Cummings Foundation, the Dramatists Guild, the Edith Meiser Fund, and through the generous support of many individuals. Backed by his swinging big band, Steve will once again offer an evening of standards from the Great American Songbook, holiday favorites, and selections from his many popular recordings in a program he's entitled "I'll Take Romance." During the month of November, the music charge is $75-$95 on Tuesday & Wednesday and $80-$105 Thursday through Saturday. For her record-breaking twenty-fourth year at the famed THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-419-9331), Andrea Marcovicci returns to her first love - the torch song. "Blue Champagne: The History of the Torch Song" debuts in New York on Tuesday, November 16th and runs through Thursday, December 30th. FEINSTEIN'S at the Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue, NYC - 212-339-4095) will conclude its Fall 2010 season with the return of the club's founder Michael Feinstein in an exclusive engagement on Tuesdays through Saturdays, starting on November 30th and through December 30th. Feinstein's longtime Musical Director John Oddo will lead the 12-piece Winter Wonderland Big Band in a collection of holiday favorites and classic standards. The program will also include a tribute to the legendary Broadway songwriter Jerry Herman, who will celebrate his 80th birthday next year. Michael Feinstein is considered one of the premier interpreters of American standards. His 150-plus shows a year have included performances at Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl as well as the White House and Buckingham Palace. More than simply a performer, Feinstein is nationally recognized for his commitment to celebrating America's popular song and preserving its legacy for the next generation. Erv Raible, Director/Artistic Director, takes pride in announcing the Ninth Annual International Cabaret Conference at Yale University which will be held July 22nd through July 31st, 2011. Auditions for the conference have previously been held in: Atlanta, Amsterdam, Boston, Chicago, Jerusalem, London UK, Los Angeles, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New Orleans, New York, Seattle, Toronto, and Washington DC. The International Cabaret Conference At Yale University is an intensive nine-day teaching program in the art of cabaret performance and trains professionals for the live entertainment industry. The Great American Songbook is addressed and promoted in its entirety, from its origins in the late 19th century through the classic pop standards of the 1930s and '40s to today's contemporary cabaret, musical theater, jazz and pop music. Participating students have come from the USA, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa and the United Kingdom. All classes are conducted in English. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese.
