She is also an accomplished soprano solo artist who has sung with celebrated tenor Jose Carreras of the legendary The Three Tenors, in a sold out concert at Radio City Music Hall. Franc D'Ambrosio is best known as the "Phantom" in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Tony Award winning Musical, The Phantom Of The Opera. SAN FRANCISCO: JUSTIN HAYWARD AT YOSHI'S

Lead singer of the Moody Blues, Justin Hayward, will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Saturday, June 7th at 8:00 pm & Sunday, June 8th at 7:00 pm. From the age of 5 Justin Hayward enjoyed singing, and he inherited his paternal grandfather's collection of 78s when he was 6, which opened up the magical world of music to him as his grandpa had collected many hits of the 30s and 40s. He had a few piano lessons at 7, learned to play the ukulele at 9, and this progressed to a strong desire to own a guitar. With help from his parents and hire purchase, Justin had achieved this ambition by the age of 10. In early 1965 Justin answered an advertisement for a guitar player in "The Melody Maker" and soon found himself one-third of The Wilde Three with Marty Wilde and his wife Joyce, appearing on stage at the London Palladium in April of that year as well as touring all over the UK and performing on a long tour of the Middle East. 1977 saw the release of Justin's first hit solo album, Songwriter, from which were taken three singles, "One Lonely Room/Songwriter (Part 2)," "Country Girl/Doin' Time" and "Stage Door/Lay It On Me." This was closely followed by his involvement with Jeff Wayne in the War of the Worlds project, which brought Justin a world-wide hit single in 1978 with the beautiful and timeless "Forever Autumn." In that year he also found time to work with the Mandalaband (led by famous photographer and author David Rohl) and contributed to their album Eye of Wendor: Prophecies, and in 1979 he released a non-album single "Marie/Heart of Steel." In the same year Justin received the ASCAP award for "Nights in White Satin." As will be seen, as well as being a vocalist and lead guitarist for The Moody Blues and pursuing a successful solo career, Justin also enjoys the challenge of working with other artists and, when time permits, he likes to give his time to performing and recording for charitable organizations and to attending music industry functions. There is a $75-$99 cover.

WASHINGTON, DC: SAX LEGEND PHAROAH SANDERS AT BLUES ALLEY

Possessing one of the most distinctive tenor saxophone sounds in jazz, Pharoah Sanders moves into BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, May 5th through 8th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Harmonically rich and heavy with overtones, Sanders' sound can be as raw and abrasive as it is possible for a saxophonist to produce. Yet, Sanders is highly regarded to the point of reverence by a great many jazz fans. Although he made his name with expressionistic, nearly anarchic free jazz in John Coltrane's late ensembles of the mid-'60s Sanders' later music is guided by more graceful concerns. The hallmarks of Sanders' playing at that time were naked aggression and unrestrained passion. In the years after Coltrane's death, however, Sanders explored other, somewhat gentler and perhaps more cerebral avenues without, it should be added, sacrificing any of the intensity that defined his work as an apprentice to Coltrane. Call for cover/minimum information.

Freddy Cole doesn't apologize for sounding like his brother, Nat "King" Cole. There are certain unmistakable similarities. He plays piano, sings and performs live with guitar and upright bass, just like Nat. Yet his voice is raspier, smokier, jazzier even. But he has emerged from the great shadow cast by his elder brother. In truth, his phrasing is far closer to that of Frank Sinatra or Billie Holiday than that of his brother and his timing swings a little more. His vocals - suave, elegant, formidable, and articulate - are among the most respected in jazz. Cole's career continues to ascend as he has moved into the front ranks of America's homegrown art form with a style and musical sophistication all his own.
