The Cabaret Convention of THE MABEL MERCER FOUNDATION will take place October 18th through 21st at ROSE THEATER AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (Columbus Circle, Broadway at 60th Street, NYC). The event has become a much anticipated, much acclaimed annual highlight of New York's autumn music season. This year, however, the four-performance concert series observes two especially noteworthy achievements. In addition to celebrating its twenty-seventh convention presentation, the Foundation simultaneously heralds the onset of its fourth decade of operation. Against wildly fluctuating public preferences in music, entertainment, and entertainers, The Mabel Mercer Foundation now has endured for more than thirty years • and flourished in its absolute commitment to the classic, "Great Popular Songbook," past, present and future. Commemorating that achievement, the 2016 Cabaret Convention presents four different music programs. More than seventy singers are scheduled to appear, and the productions include specific tributes to the songs of Stephen Sondheim, the lyrics of Sheldon Harnick, the melodies of Charles Strouse, and the repertoire of legendary jazz artist Sylvia Syms. Each evening boasts its own host(s), and the preeminent emcees include Klea Blackhurst, Jeff Harnar, Andrea Marcovicci, Rex Reed, and KT Sullivan; the latter also is the artistic director of The Mabel Mercer Foundation. Presale advance tickets now are available ONLY through The Mabel Mercer Foundation: 212-980-3026 or info@mabelmercer.org . Prices are $100, $50, and $25, and Premium Patron Seating is also available @ $500 ($350 of which is tax-deductible). Those holding Patron Seating tickets are invited to a post-show cocktail reception with the evening's artists; Patron Seating is limited to fifty seats per performance. "Another Kind of Light", Raissa Katona Bennett's latest CD is available now - perfect for relaxed listening and a great gift for any time of year that keeps giving joy and pleasure all year round! It's a pop-contemporary spin on several well known standards, combined with new songs, a mix of jazz, pop, and theatre, that intelligently explore the human condition and strike a universal chord. On this CD, three songs were written expressly for Raissa - two by Michael John LaChiusa: "Torch Song for Raissa" and "Bye, Bye, Ingenue", and onw by David Caldwell: "i carry your heart". Two other songs received their first commercial recording here: Ron Abel and Chuck Steffan's "Waiting for a Westbound Train," and "How Could I Not?" is from the David Spencer/cAlan Menken musical, THE APPRENTICESHIP OF DUDDY KRAVITZ. On Broadway: Raissa was "Christine Daae" in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, and performed in CHESS, as a benefit for the Actor's Fund. First National Tours: "Jellylorum/Griddlebone" and "Jennyanydots" in CATS, and as "Lizzie Phagan" in PARADE, where she worked with the original creative team of director Harold Prince, choreographer Patricia Birch, author Alfred Uhry, and composer Jason Robert Brown. In NYC, Raissa has headlined at: Feinstein's, Metropolitan Room, Iridium and The Laurie Beechman Theatre. She has guest starred at: The Supper Club, Rainbow Room, 88's, Don't Tell Mama, Chita's, The Algonquin, and Radio City Music Hall.
