D.C.: JACQUI NAYLOR AT BLUES ALLEY

Jacqui Naylor will perform at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Wednesday, October 2nd with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Jacqui Naylor is not an easy artist to categorize. There are times when she performs straight-ahead vocal jazz, but at other times she favors more of a folk-rock/adult alternative approach. Depending on the mood she is in at a given moment, the northern Californian can bring to mind anyone from Cassandra Wilson or British jazz vocalist Claire Martin to Sarah McLachlan or Shawn Colvin -- she is as comfortable among jazz improvisers as she is in the singer/songwriter world. During one of her live performances, Naylor has no problem singing smoky jazz one minute and folk-rock or adult alternative the next - and there are times when she blurs the line between the two. Call for cover/minimum information.

Everyone knows the brilliance of the Great American Songbook - which has been performed for many years, and in many different ways. But that songbook has expanded beyond 1955 - and now is the time to celebrate other writers who have created iconic music in the past half century. As always, Tony will have some exciting new material of his own, and a few wonderful surprises to share with the audience. There is a $30-$45 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

NYC: ANITA GILLETTE & PENNY FULLER AT 54 BELOW

Two beloved Tony-nominated Broadway actresses, Anita Gillette & Penny Fuller, join forces for a delectable evening of humorous reflection and harmonious song in Sin Twisters, at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Wednesdays, October 2nd & 9th at 9:30 pm. Sin Twisters is a show with a devilish spoonerism of a title. On the streets of Manhattan and Los Angeles, these vibrant and savvy veterans of over two dozen Broadway productions, as well as countless films and television shows, are constantly being mistaken for each other, although one is at least three inches taller, and one is a blonde and the other, a redhead. Yet, during their respective careers, they have both tackled some of the same parts, including the plum role of Sally Bowles in the original Broadway production of Cabaret. Sin Twisters joyfully celebrates these similarities but also gives full voice to these two remarkable performers' differences as artists and as women. This show is a must for anyone who loves theater lore and cherishes the enduring bonds of friendship. There is a $35-$45 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
