Jesse Luttrell's wildly successful Bawdy returns to its original home STAGE 72 (formerly THE TRIAD (158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-362-2590) for monthly performances on the last Saturday of every month. Performances begin on Saturday, February 23rd at 9:30 pm. The brainchild of trampy cabaret favorite Jesse Luttrell, BAWDY is headlined by Luttrell. BAWDY brings together cabaret, drag, and comedy performers of all classifications and orders in a celebration of adult variety paying homage to vaudeville, burlesque, and the hit television variety shows of the 50s and 60s. First conceived in 2009 as a benefit for Marriage Equality NEW YORK, BAWDY enjoyed sold-out runs at the same venue. After an extended break, BAWDY is set to return with all of the sexy, crazy, glitzy, and raging bravado we've come to expect from Luttrell. For the February 23rd performance, Luttrell will be featuring West Village nightlife legends Melissa E. Driscol (from Stonewall Inn), The Parodivas (the hilarious parody-singing dynamic duo), and burlesque superstars Gemini Rising, Grace Gotham, and Tansy Tan Dora. The cast for the evening will also include Sabra!, Evan Campbell, Tripp Fountain, Buddy Flowers, Laura Oldham (Kazoo Girl), and Adam DiLoreto. There is a $35 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.


After a sold-out run last year at the Duplex, "C'MON, GET PAPPY! A FATHER/SON CABARET", a unique cabaret act written and performed by Brett Lowell with his 84-year old father is returning to NYC and THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909). Shows will be Saturdays, February 23rd, March 23rd, and April 20th - all shows at 7:30 pm. Written by Brett Lowell & Edward Lowell, MD. Joining the creative team is director Michael Schiralli (Jackie Hoffman's A Chanukah Charol at New World Stages). Musical director Darius Frowner. Noted psychiatrist Dr. Edward "Pappy" Lowell is the happiest man he knows. His son Brett is one of his closest friends. The two of them will join together to present an evening of songs and stories on the art and science of being happy 84 years of wisdom on living a life of joy, passed from father to son. It will feature a diverse range of music, including the songs of Kander and Ebb, Bruce Springsteen, Comden & Green, Alan Menkin, Jason Robert Brown, the Beatles, and more. Brett Lowell is a singer experienced in styles ranging from cabaret, musical theater, swing, jazz, and classical. He has performed at many venues in the NYC area, including The Duplex, Rose's Turn, Don't Tell Mama's, St. Bart's Players, Brooklyn Heights Players, St. John the Divine, Merkin Concert Hall, Tim McLoone's Supper Club (in Asbury Park, with Bob Egan), and Carnegie Hall. Edward Lowell, MD is a physician of 58 years specializing in psychotherapy and forensic psychiatry. He has taken his practice beyond treating mental illness to empowering people to live with aliveness and joy. An accomplished public speaker, this show represents Dr. Lowell's stage debut. "Careless Rhapsody: An Evening Dedicated to the Lyrics of Lorenz Hart" will be presented at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Tuesday & Wednesday, February 26th & 27th at 7:00 pm. Arthur Masella serves as director; Don Rebic, musical director and on Dick Scarpola, bass. In "Careless Rhapsody," award-winning vocalist, director and Broadway actor (The Frogs, Sweet Smell of Success, and Kiss Me, Kate) Eric Michael Gillett uses the wit and wisdom of Lorenz Hart to remind us all that, though love can be be experienced with abandon, to be careless with the heart can also have a price. George Balanchine called Lorenz Hart the "Shelley of America" and, it's true, his lyric writing ranks with the greatest romantic poetry of all time. Though he, himself, was unlucky in love, his writing casts a spell that will always survive the test of time, inspiring generations of lovers to come to follow their hearts. Eric Michael Gillett is a MAC and Bistro Award winning vocalist whose own cabaret shows have included "Cast of Thousands: The Songs of Craig Carnelia" (for which Eric was named MAC's Major Male Vocalist of 2012); "It Takes Two: The Duets of Stephen Sondheim" (with Melanie Vaughan); "Best of My Love," and his critically-lauded collection of radio songs of the past forty years, "Hook, Line, and Singer." Following a successful four-month run at San Martin on the East Side, Chris Barrett brings his music to LA RIVISTA RISTORANTE (313 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-366-4603) for an open ended run on Mondays through Wednesdays starting Monday, January 21st. There are two shows nightly, a dinner show at 8:00 and a supper show at 10:00 pm. Chris Barrett's performances are in the tradition of the great late-night boites of a fondly remembered era, when the likes of Hugh Shannon, Bobby Short, and Buddy Barnes manned the keyboard. There is no cover charge.
"No Expectations" returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Monday, February 25th at 7:00 pm, recalling the elegance and sophistication of an exquisite night out at the Persian Room during the golden heyday of NY nightclubs, Parker Scott, Wells Hanley and cellist Rubin Kodheli bring their virtuosic musicianship and unbridled passion. The show covers the musical landscapes of theater, pop, rock, standards and international favorites. The show is directed by Bistro Award-winning and MAC-nominated director, Gerry Geddes. Parker has been a MAC nominee, and his first collaboration with Wells - Selecting Souvenirs - resulted in the duo receiving a 2012 Bistro Award for outstanding recording. "No Expectations" (from the Rolling Stones hit) will explore the complexities of love and passion - the twists, the joys and the pains that come with putting your heart and soul on the line. It will include music by Cole Porter, Jimmy Webb, Ricky Ian Gordon, John Bucchino and Jacques Brel. The centerpiece of the show is The Waltz Medley which has music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics from his three major collaborators, Lorenz Hart, Oscar Hammerstein and Stephen Sondheim. Parker, Wells and Rubin will also go to the streets of Paris for inspiration in the songs of Edith Piaf. There will be several arrangements for voice, piano and cello by the late Dick Gallagher. Parker's cabaret appearances include engagements at The Metropolitan Room, Don't Tell Mama, The Duplex, Danny's, Eighty-Eights, Somethin' Jazz Club and guest appearances at Judy's. He was the lead male vocalist aboard The Silver Whisper and sailed to 38 countries, along the way also giving performances in Camogli, Italy and St. Petersburg, Russia. Parker appeared as John Denver in Bring Me John Denver (directed by Judy Norton of The Waltons fame) at the Granbury Opera House in Texas, where he delighted audiences and critics in a concert of John Denver songs. In New York City, he has sung roles with Chelsea Opera, Opera Slavica and Opera Manhattan. He has performed cabarets in DC, Maine, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia and on the high seas in the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Baltics. Jim Speake has scheduled another performance of his acclaimed show, "Jim Speake Sings Til The Cows Come Home" at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) for Saturday February 23rd at 5:00 pm. Singing songs written by Kander and Ebb, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Cy Coleman, Barry Manilow, Stephen Bishop, Gilda Radner, Neil Sedaka, Peter Allen, Billy Joel, Dale Evans and Stephen Sondheim, Jim illustrates life experiences both serious and comic. Lennie Watts directs the show, with musical direction by Steven Ray Watkins with the Cow Band. The inimitable Sidney Myer will make a special appearance. Jackie Draper brings her new show "Tropical Magic (or Vacation from the Blues)" to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Friday, February 22nd at 7:00 pm. "Tropical Magic (or Vacation from the Blues)" is a musical trip to torrid tropical fantasies and other magical mental terrain. Escape the cold and the mundane through songs in English, French and Spanish, guided by such composers/lyricists as Aznavour, Coward, Demare/Manzi, Dorough/Landesman, the Gershwins, Goldrich/Heisler, Lee, Legrand/the Bergmans, Mandel/Hamilton, Manilow/Feldman & Sussman, Sedaka, Warren/Gordon, among others. Along on the adventure, Jackie's experienced team: At the piano - Music Director Gregory Toroian; on bass - Ritt Henn; on woodwinds - Robbyn Tongue; on percussion - special guest (and dance partner) Franklin Ayala. 2-time GRAMMY-winning jazz singer and producer Cassandra Wilson will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) Thursday through Saturday, February 21st through 23rd with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Cassandra Wilson is a jazz musician, vocalist, songwriter, and producer from Jackson, Mississippi. Described by critic Gary Giddins as "a singer blessed with an unmistakable timbre and attack who has expanded the playing field" by incorporating blues, country and folk music into her work. She began playing piano at six, guitar by the age of twelve and was working as a vocalist by the mid-'70s, singing a wide variety of material. After moving to New York City in the early '80s, Cassandra met saxophonist Steve Coleman and became one of the founding members of the M-Base Collective. She signed with Blue Note Records in 1992 and released a landmark album titled "Blue Light 'Til Dawn" which would pave the way for a new generation of jazz singers seeking an approach and repertoire that challenges the supremacy of the American Standard songbook. Wilson has continued interpreting in fresh and creative ways vintage blues, country and folk music up until the present day. Her awards include: two GRAMMYs, the Django D'Or, The Edison Music Award, a marker on the Mississippi Blues Trail, and the 2012 Echo Award for Jazz. She also performed one of the leading roles in Wynton Marsalis' "Blood on the Fields," the first jazz work to receive a Pulitzer Prize. Nationally recognized actor and vocalist Gia Mora (a four-time Helen Hayes Award nominee), in association with Jonathan White, has announced the world premiere of her new solo show, Einstein's Girl, at THE GARDENIA(7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) for one performance only, on Thursday, February 21st, at 9:00 pm. Einstein's Girl explores the "science of love ... theoretically speaking." Mora turns her signature wit and intellectual prowess on an unlikely paring of human languages ... love and mathematics.
