ST. LOUIS: TODD & KELLY DECKER WITH THEY CAN'T TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME

Todd and Kelly Decker present They Can't Take That Away from Me: Songs and Stories of George and Ira Gershwin as part of the GASLIGHT CABARET FESTIVAL (358 North Boyle Street, Louis MO - 314-725-4200 EXT 10 -) on Saturday, April 5th at 8:00 pm. The Gershwin brothers - George (music) and Ira (lyrics) - remade popular music in the 1920s and 1930s, writing songs for Broadway shows and Hollywood films that have stood the test of time. In their own time, these sons of Jewish immigrants helped define what the word "jazz" meant and charted a meteoric path to international stardom before George's untimely death at age thirty-eight. This show revisits the Gershwins' greatest songs - "The Man I Love," "Summertime," "I Got Rhythm," "S'Wonderful," the list goes on and on - and explores just what makes a Gershwin tune so irresistible. Kelly and Todd Decker have been performing together for twenty-five years, sharing music from Mozart to Gershwin. Kelly (soprano) has sung leading roles in operas like Die Fledermaus and musicals like Oklahoma! Todd (piano) teaches music and film history at Washington University and has published books on Fred Astaire and Show Boat. Their cabaret shows combine classic American popular songs from Broadway and Hollywood with tales about the songs and the songwriters. There is a $25 cover.
