NYC: THE AMANDA MCBROOM PROJECT: 1 GREAT SONGWRITER, 4 MAGICAL NIGHTS, 30 INCREDIBLE WOMEN!
CELEBRATING MARCH IS CABARET MONTH

On four magical nights at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909), 30 incredible women will pay tribute to one great songwriter in The Amanda McBroom project, directed by Eric Michael Gillett, with musical direction by Jeff Cubeta. From "The Rose" and "The Portrait" to "Ship in a Bottle" and "Erroll Flynn," Ms. McBroom's songs have thrilled audiences for decades. Now, hear them as never before, as well as little-known gems from her vast catalogue. Performers include, in alphabetical order: Karen Akers, Stacey Logan, Raissa Katona Bennett, Rosemary Loar, Erin Wegner Brooks, Kelly McDonald, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, Tanya Moberly, Juliana Davis, Carolyn Montgomery-Forant, Shana Farr, Marieann Meringolo, Terese Genecco, Marissa Mulder, Jillian Gottlieb, Christine Reisner, LaTanya Hall, Danielle Erin Rhodes, Elise Holman, Sarah Rice, Leah Jennings, Marta Sanders, Eva Kantor, Jennifer Sheehan, Valerie Lemon, Sonja Stuart, Adriane Lenox, KT Sullivan, Lorinda Lisitza, and Melanie Vaughan. Amanda McBroom has been called "the greatest cabaret performer of her generation, an urban poet who writes like an angel and has a voice to match." Her name first came to the attention of the music public when Bette Midler's version of Amanda's song "The Rose" hit number one all over the world. But it was Amanda's performance of her own songs on the Golden Globes, the Grammy awards, and the Tonight Show that launched her career as a singer as well as a songwriter. Her songs have been recorded by the likes of Bette Midler, Barry Manilow, Judy Collins, Barbara Cook, Harry Belafonte, Betty Buckley, The Manhattan Transfer, and Donny Osmond. Her love of and background in musical theater (she starred in the New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and European productions of "Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris," on Broadway in "Seesaw," and in "Sweeney Todd," "A Little Night Music" and "Mame") compelled her to create a musical based on her songs. "Heartbeats" made its debut in Los Angeles and the play has enjoyed over 15 regional theater productions around the U.S. There is a $20 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.

TONIGHT IN NYC: HELL OR HIGH WATER WITH JAMES JACKSON, JR.

NYC: HELL OR HIGH WATER WITH JAMES JACKSON, JR.
CELEBRATING MARCH IS CABARET MONTH

Performing artist James Jackson Jr., presents an evening of gender-defying songs, ramblings from the pages of his diary, and an evening like no other at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Saturday, March 16th at 11:00 pm. His razor-sharp wit, talent and on & off stage persona have made him an artistic force to be reckoned with. Elliot Roth leads the band featuring some of the hottest musicians in town. Shaleah Adkisson and LaDonna Burns on back-up vocals. Directed by MAC and Bistro Award winner Gerry Geddes. A self-described "sucker" for song interpretation and storytelling, James' unique sense of humor is now aimed at changing the face of the cabaret stage. James Jackson, Jr. was undergraduately reared by lesbians in the New England Bekshires after artistically growing up in Boston under the soul-food tutelage of a deep southern family. After being deposited in New York City over a decade ago, the real work began. Dance belts, regional stage yelts, demanding Brits, and a rather unfortunate stop in Branson, Missouri lead to his discovery of artistic truth on prestigious stages like Radio City Music Hall as well as Carnegie Hall. His highly emotional, devastatingly funny cabaret act has been seen at Joe's Pub, Duane Park, DROM, The A.R.T.'s Club Oberon, and Los Angeles' Lyric Theatre. James' razor-sharp wit, unique sense of humor, talent, and on & off stage persona have become an artistic force to be reckoned with as well as a voice people want to hear as he changes the face of the concert stage. There is a $15-$25 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

On Fridays & Saturdays, March 8th & 9th and 15th & 16th at 7:00 pm The Laurie Beechman will host a rotating cast of phenomenal theatrical and cabaret talent as they join together to sing the songs of Amanda McBroom in four unique evenings celebrating the career and music of one of the country's best-loved artists.

URGENT MESSAGE FROM WBAI - LISTENER SUPPORTED RADIO

We received an urgent message from David Kenney regarding WBAI - which carries his EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN show on Sunday evenings. The station is in emergency mode, needing to raise at least $200,000 by the end of March or else risk losing their lease on the antenna at the top of Empire State forever. Your contribution will go specifically to the fund set up for listeners to help prevent WBAI radio from complete shutdown. By helping us meet the rising and accumulated costs for our transmitter at the Empire State Building you assure that WBAI will continue on the air.
Our dire circumstances are due to a number of contributing factors:
1) The 2008 economic collapse
2) The devastation from Hurricane Sandy which forced WBAI to leave their downtown location and move to temporary administrative quarters and broadcast studios.
3) The loss of revenue when our Fall Fund Drive was curtailed because of the Hurricane evacuation.
4) Funds are already needed to establish WBAI in a new permanent location.
Please go to http://www.give2wbai.org and donate whatever you can afford.
