NYC: "I'M A STRANGER HERE MYSELF" RETURNS TO THE YORK THEATRE

NYC: "I'M A STRANGER HERE MYSELF" RETURNS TO THE YORK THEATRE

By popular demand, THE YORK THEATRE at Saint Peter's Church (619 Lexington Avenue, NYC - 212-935-5820 ext. 25) has announced the return engagement of the new musical I'm a Stranger Here Myself, written and performed by Mark Nadler, with Franca Vercelloni on accordion, Jessica Tyler Wright on vioin and directed by David Schweizer. Performances will resume on Tuesday evening, May 28th at 7:00 pm and continue through Sunday afternoon, June 9th at 2:30 pm. The heart, soul and tears of the music that helped define Broadway in its golden age was inextricably linked to a magical (and sinister) several years in pre-WWII Berlin. It was a brief period when the creative strangers of the society - poets, playwrights, Jews, gays and artists of all sorts - were embraced and even exalted. And it's this smart, sexy, jazz-fueled, booze-soaked era that the astonishing, multi-award winning entertainer Mark Nadler brings to life in I'm a Stranger Here Myself - the deeply emotional undercurrents of a society about to break itself into a million pieces. I'm a Stranger Here Myself will play the following performance schedule: Tuesday at 7:00 pm, Wednesday through Friday at 8:00 pm, Saturday at 2:30 pm & 8:00 pm and Sunday at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $67.50.

NYC: BARBARA CARROLL SATURDAYS AT BIRDLAND

NYC Cabaret/Jazz icon Barbara Carroll performs at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 ) on Saturdays at 6:00 pm. She is joined by her long-time bassist Jay Leonhart. Barbara Carroll's still evolving career as a jazz pianist began when she played her first New York engagement opposite Dizzy Gillespie's big band at the Downbeat Club in 1947. A thrilling if a trifle unsettling debut for a young female pianist from Worcester, Massachusetts who began playing the piano at five and who's family was wise enough to give her lessons that provided her with a basic knowledge of classical technique. In 1978, she was booked into the Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle hotel for a two week engagement - and stayed for twenty five years. It was at the Carlyle that she began to feature her singing as an integral part of her performances. Following her 25 years at the Carlyle, she is well into another long run in the famous Oak Room at New York's Algonquin Hotel, making a significant and successful effort to incorporate jazz playing into a cabaret venue. Other recent engagements have included concerts at Philharmonic Hall in Naples, Florida, the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, concerts at the Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts as well as twelve sold out performances at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, at Jazz at Lincoln Center. NYC: MARK NADLER'S "I'M A STRANGER HERE MYSELF" AT TO THE YORK THEATRE

NYC: MARK NADLER'S "I'M A STRANGER HERE MYSELF" AT TO THE YORK THEATRE
