A graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, Matt has relocated to New York, where he's pursuing a Master's degree at the Manhattan School of Music. He balances a full-time career with graduate work. Matt's accomplishments are especially impressive given the fact that as a young child he could not tolerate music or sound in general. At the age of three, Matt was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, a high-functioning type of autism. For the next four years, his parents immersed him in intensive intervention therapies. At age 6 1/2, Matt completed auditory integration therapy, which drastically reduced his sensitivity to sound. With re-tuned sensory and social perceptions, Matt immersed himself in all things musical. His abilities flourished at a hyper-accelerated pace. Matt taught himself to read music and play piano literally overnight; he began formal lessons soon thereafter. Call for cover/minimum information.

CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: BARBARA CARROLL SATURDAYS AT BIRDLAND

CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: BARBARA CARROLL SATURDAYS AT BIRDLAND

NYC Cabaret/Jazz icon Barbara Carroll performs at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Saturdays in November at 6:00 pm. She is joined by her long-time bassist Jay Leonhart. Barbara Carroll's still evolving career as a jazz pianist began when she played her first New York engagement opposite Dizzy Gillespie's big band at the Downbeat Club in 1947. A thrilling if a trifle unsettling debut for a young female pianist from Worcester, Massachusetts who began playing the piano at five and who's family was wise enough to give her lessons that provided her with a basic knowledge of classical technique. In 1978, she was booked into the Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle hotel for a two week engagement - and stayed for twenty five years. It was at the Carlyle that she began to feature her singing as an integral part of her performances. Following her 25 years at the Carlyle, she is well into another long run in the famous Oak Room at New York's Algonquin Hotel, making a significant and successful effort to incorporate jazz playing into a cabaret venue. Other recent engagements have included concerts at Philharmonic Hall in Naples, Florida, the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, concerts at the Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts as well as twelve sold out performances at Dizzy's Club, at Jazz at Lincoln Center. There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: PHOEBE LEGERE'S "SHAKESPEARE AND ELIZABETH  I: THE REALITY SHOW"

Phoebe Legere, the renowned singer, author, composer and multi-format artist, has written a full-length musical comedy, "Shakespeare and Elizabeth I: The Reality Show." THEATER FOR THE NEW CITY (155 First Avenue, NYC - 212-254-1109) will present this world premiere from Saturday, November 29th through Sunday, December 15th. The show plays Thursdays through Saturday at 8:00 pm, and Sundays at 3:00 pm. The musical is about love, war, espionage and creative genius, and includes music written by Legere, who heads the cast of ten as Queen Elizabeth I. Director David Zen Mansley plays the Bard and trumpeter Rhys Tivey plays Robert Dudley, 1st Earl of Leicester, the Queen's noble heartthrob. After analyzing the life, letters, translations, poetry and iconography of Queen Elizabeth I, Legere concluded that "Shakespeare" was, in fact, Elizabeth Tudor and her inner circle. Her new musical is a heady brew of "eye of newt, toe of frog," gigantic neck ruffs, amazing scenery and special effects. It features numerous quotes from the complete works of both Shakespeare and Elizabeth presented with Legere's signature social commentary and comic flair. This "Reality Show" is a feel-good feminist reading of the Shakespeare Brand enlivened by the music of Phoebe Legere. Tickets are $15.

CABARET TONIGHT IN LONDON: KAREN OBERLIN AT CRAZY COQS - CLOSING NIGHT

CABARET TONIGHT IN LONDON: KAREN OBERLIN AT CRAZY COQS - CLOSING NIGHT

Following her popular debut in 2012, Karen Oberlin returns toTHE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888) Tuesday through Saturday, November 26th through 30th at 8:00 pm with a new show, OVER THE RAINBOW: The Songs of Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg. Oberlin has performed the songs of Arlen and Harburg all over the US and in Paris, having a deep love and affinity for both of these songwriters. The convergence of two of the greatest songwriters of all time was realized in 1939, with the release of the film The Wizard of Oz. The songs from the film, written by these titans of the Great American Songbook, would change the musical world forever, the best known among these evergreens being placed on many lists as "the greatest song of the twentieth century". Aside from Over the Rainbow and other songs from that film, they created numerous Broadway shows together and wrote many popular songs and Hollywood hits such as Last Night When We Were Young, If I Only Had A Heart/Brain, Happiness Is Just A Thing Called Joe, Down With Love and, of course, Groucho Marx's Lydia the Tattooed Lady, among many other masterpieces. In her show, Oberlin explores some of these musical geniuses' songs before they had joined forces and what helped make the magic between them. Their songs burst with humour, beauty and intelligence, not to mention the songwriters' devotion to improving the human condition. Their body of work is quite unlike any before or since, and Oberlin brings their best moments to radiant life. Oberlin, who appeared in an opera at the age of six and hasn't stopped singing since, performed in the hit off-Broadway show Our Sinatra over 100 times. She has many theatrical, film and television credits, including performing in the first staged version of the now-legendary Broadway show RENT and playing a recurring nurse on the American soap opera All My Children. Oberlin has headlined at all the New York premier cabaret and jazz rooms and has toured worldwide. She has been the recipient of Nightlife, MAC and Bistro Awards and she is a recording artist with three CD's and is currently busy with her fourth. Call for cover/minimum information.

OPENS TONIGHT IN NYC: PHOEBE LEGERE'S "SHAKESPEARE AND ELIZABETH I: THE REALITY SHOW"

OPENS TONIGHT IN NYC: PHOEBE LEGERE'S "SHAKESPEARE AND ELIZABETH I: THE REALITY SHOW"
