LEGENDARY LOCAL MUSICIAN DONATES CD PROCEEDS TO SKOKIE THEATRE

LEGENDARY LOCAL MUSICIAN DONATES CD PROCEEDS TO SKOKIE THEATRE

Local Illinois musician Bob Acri is celebrating the addition of his song "Sleep Away" to Windows 7 by donating the proceeds of his CD "The Cavalcade of Music Foundation Presents Bob Acri" to the THE SKOKIE THEATRE MUSIC FOUNDATION (7924 Lincoln Avenue, Skokie, IL - 847-677-7761)

Acri was raised in Chicago, attending Austin High School and becoming a staff pianist for NBC radio and television at age 17. From there he gathered an impressive array of experience, playing for music greats like Harry James, Woody Herman, Carmen McRae and Barbara Steisand. He didn't get the chance to record his own album until the age of 82, when he debuted with "Timeless" featuring the single "Sleep Away". The single was chosen to appear as a sample song on Windows 7, featured on almost all prebuilt PCs.

Now, with the increased exposure, Acri would like to give back to the Skokie Theatre Music Foundation. All of the proceeds for "The Cavalcade of Music Foundation Presents Bob Acri" will be donated to the Foundation. CDs are available on http://www.skokietheatre.org/ with a donation to the theatre.

ABOUT SKOKIE THEATRE

The Foundation is delighted to have acquired the Skokie Theatre, a landmark building in the Chicago Metropolitan area. Renovated to the tune of 1.5 million dollars, this 140 seat venue will help serve the foundation's goals by offering a world class performance environment for musicians and providing a home for educational workshops, music business education seminars and professional clinics.

I saw this show earlier this week and it is truly a fun evening. Ms. Fischer is not a stand-up comic, but she is a humorist with great vocals and amazing accompanist Paul Chamlin's occasional droll commentary makes for a great show. The puppets? Not quite "Avenue Q" but very cleverly presented. STU

I saw this show when it was presented as part of Lennie Watt's UNDER THE COVER SERIES earlier this year - and I went especially because I had heard Ms. Bufford's spectacular vocals at THE TOWN HALL in a BROADWAY BY THE YEAR show. I don't always agree with Mr. Newman's take on things, but I do applaud Ms. Buford's take on Mr. Newman! Great show! STU

MORE "HERE & THERE" PART II - BLOG EDITION

MORE "HERE & THERE" PART II

I "stayed too long at the fair" on Tuesday night. The MAC AWARDS show ended around 11:30 pm and Daniel and I decided to walk the few blocks to DON'T TELL MAMA for the "after party" and got caught up networking, schmoozing and noshing until well after 1:00 am. Now, I have probably mentioned, that to get home from just about any place I need to take the 14E MTA bus to Avenue C (the last avenue in my part of town is Avenue D - then the Hudson River drive). And after 1:00 am, the bus runs only once an hour. And naturally, when I got to Eighth Avenue and 14th Street, the 1:40 am bus had just left. Perhaps a little, shall we say, overconfident of my powers, I decided to walk the 10 long blocks rather than wait until 2:40 am for the next bus (the tabs at BB KINGS & DON'T TELL MAMA left me with no cash for a cab). Big mistake, because for a change, I was wearing leather dress shows instead of sneakers. I would say, "lesson learned" at this point, but knowing I've made this same mistake in the past I will say "an old dog never learns."

HERE & THERE - PART I - BLOG EDITION

HERE & THERE - PART I

Just in case your not following CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE on TWITTER, not checkin the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BLOG or MESSAGE BOARD, and not a member of MAC or subscriber to Cabaretsingers e-mail list, we want to let you know that Julie Wilson has cancelled her appearance this week and next at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM. Fear not: Ms. Wilson has some minor health issues that she felt might keep her from giving her usual 110% performance in this series of shows. She even attended the MAC AWARDS GALA on Tuesday night (her series wes to start last night).

I attended the MAC AWARDS GALA as well on Tuesday night at BB KINGS - or I should say "survived" since it lasted about 4 hours. I was hoping to have a report for the website and the blog but no press materials were available at the show and to complete such a report I prefer to have at least a running order, with performers names and the songs presented. MAC promises to send one - we might be able to include a synopsis of the report in Saturday's MEMBERS ONLY newsletter, repeated in Monday's general newsletter, with the full report on the website and the blog.
Follow be on TWITTER ( http://twitter.com/cabarethotline ) to be notified at once when the report is posted on the website and the blog.
Meantime, the list of this year's winners (and a link to those nominated) is posted on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website - .

Did you know that all members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE get an additional newsletter on Saturdays, reminding them of all the show/event discounts for the following 10 days, special news and discounts just for members on banners & sidebar ads, as well as advance news that will appear in the Monday newsletter? Check out all membership benefits athttp://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/Membership.shtml
I'm getting all psyched up for this coming Monday's BROADWAY BY THE YEAR show at THE TOWN HALL - the year featured will be 1966, and will feature such shows such as Cabaret, Mame, I Do! I Do!, Sweet Charity and The Apple Tree plus more dance numbers than any other Town Hall Broadway by the Year concert this season. Both Daniel and I have found that each show seems better than the last! These events have been close to selling out this season, so I urge you to call THE TOWN HALL quickly before you miss out. There's no such thing as a "bad seat" at THE TOWN HALL!

Did you know that 2010-2011 CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE MEMBERSHIPS start at just $5? Look in the listings below and you will discover 4 shows in the next few weeks giving discounts of $5 or wore - meaning that by just attending one of them, you've gotten you investment back! Check out all membership benefits athttp://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/Membership.shtml
"A Class Act" - that's what I told Richard Skipper at the MAC AWARDS show on Tuesday night. I was referring to the fact that when the WEDNESDAY AT THE IQUANA show received the award for VARIETY PRODUCTION/ RECURRING SERIES, he invited Joan Crowe on stage to share in the applause. Joan had begun the series in a slightly different format, and turned the weekly show over to Richard and Dana Lorge when she had to take a break for other work that had come her way. Incidentally, WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT THE IGUANA is on Thursday night this week - that's tonight - this week only. No minimum and just a $12 cover.

UPDATE RE: JULIE WILSON from Sue Matsuki

From Sue Matsuki: Stu has just announced that Julie has canceled her two week run at the Metropolitan for health reasons. She fine, don't worry. She was actually at the MAC Awards last night. She's just very tired from a very busy travel schedule as of late so she's going to just rest up and bring the show back when she feels more like herself. We'll keep you posted as to when the new show will open. I'm making her big jars of homemade soups and some potato rolls (her favorite) tonight to fatten her skinny body up (her words!) and she'll be ready to boogie in no time.

Just letting you know that she's fine, just tired. You know our Julie, she would not want to step on stage and not give her usual 110%!

NYC: ENRICO RAVA NEW QUINTET AT BIRDLAND THROUGH SATURDAY

NYC: ENRICO RAVA NEW QUINTET AT BIRDLAND

Enrico Rava, undoubtedly the most well-known Italian jazz musician on a global level, will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 - ) Wednesday through Saturday, May 5th through 8th with sets at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Since his rapid rise to fame on the international scene in the mid-60s, he has been constantly involved in numerous original projects, and is considered one of the most important trumpet soloists on the European scene. His individuality on a musical and personal level make him hard to define, a musician who moves outside of traditional limits of genre and style, who refuses to adhere to convention. His style is immediately recognizable, his lyrical sound constantly sustained by an astonishing freshness of ideas which are revealed in all of his musical endeavors. Enrico Rava returns to Birdland with his new quintet featuring trombonist Gianluca Petrella, pianist Giovanni Guidi, double bassist Pietro Leveratto, and drummer Fabrizio Sferra. A group composed of such richly varied and original soloists requires a decisive esthetic direction to permit creative dialogue between the musicians; Rava's clear authority as leader stems from his ability to draw out the best from his sidemen, allowing them to reveal their abundant originality within the expressive world of his original compositions. The result is a multi-faceted mosaic of musical expression in constant flux. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
