SWEET LIFE - A NEW CD BY JIM SPEAKE

This recording had a long gestation, starting when Jim was born in Florence Alabama in1945. This was very close to the place where musical magic was to be made, the famous recording studios in Muscle Shoals. By coincidence, Percy Sledge was born in the same little town where his family and Jim lived, Leighton, Alabama. He had a major hit with his first recording in 1966, and the "Muscle Shoals Sound" was firmly established. Jim Speake had music in his life from an early age, because he sang along with his mother when she played the piano and sang. A track of his first recording session at four, can be found on Jim's first CD, "Jim Speake Sings My Generation." It was expected that he would go into the family business of farming. Instead, when Speake went to college, he earned degrees in Business Administration, University of Alabama and ultimately Landscape Architecture, University of Georgia. If he had followed my heart, he would have studied music. That was a road Jim did not take seriously until he moved to New York City in 2000. There, while studying acting and voice, Jim was lucky enough to meet some key people who have been vital to his development as a singer. At H.B. Studio, he met KT Sullivan. KT introduced Jim to Eric Michael Gillett. Eric Michael introduced him to Patrick DeGennaro. Patrick introduced him to Lennie Watts and Steven Ray Watkins. 2015 marked the tenth anniversary of his collaboration with these two talented men. Most of the arrangements on this recording were developed working with this same team. It is not a stretch to say thatSpeake would not have made this recording had he not met Lennie and Steven. He especially appreciates Lennie's support through this journey and also introducing him to Paul Rolnick.

DUNELLEN, NJ: PEACHES AND CRIME BRING THEATRE AND MUSIC BACK TO RADIO THEATER
You Choose The Action Murder Mystery Before Live Audience

For years, the all-original Vaudeville variety musical act Peaches and Crime has been bringing a revival of a vibrant, varied, and unpredictable stage art for to stages across New York and beyond. But on Saturday, April 23rd at 9:00 pm, Peaches and Crime will bring their special brand of macabre music and wit to ROXY & DUKEIS ROADHOUSE (745 Bound Brook Road, Dunellen, NJ - 732-529-4464) reviving yet another neglected American art form - a live radio play, fresh from its premier at Manhattan's exclusive FEINSTEINS/54 BELOW cabaret. For decades, live radio drama and comedy broadcasts were the American public's principle and most easily-available form of home entertainment. Before television became practical but after the movies drove many Vaudevillians away from successful touring stage careers, radio brought the country's greatest performers into the homes of the public while leaving space for the listener's visual imagination to work. The comedies were invariably performed before a live audience, with the actors holding scripts and wearing street clothes, but nonetheless bringing their characters to life with the energy of live theatre. Aware that in Dunellen their primary listenership will be sitting in front of them rather than listening at home, Peaches and Crime have added an audience participation element to the proceedings, pausing the play at several key points to allow the audience to decide which choices characters will make and what course the action will take. There is a $12 cover in advance ($20 cash cover at door) - available at https://www.showclix.com/event/peaches-and-crime

BREAKING NEWS FROM CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE - NYC: ONE NIGHT ONLY! RICHARD MALAVET AT THE MET!

BREAKING NEWS FROM CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE -
NYC: ONE NIGHT ONLY! RICHARD MALAVET AT THE MET!

Acclaimed jazz stylist Richard Malavet returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM(34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Friday, March 18th at 7:00 pm with his critically acclaimed show: The Billy Eckstine Project: Songs in the Key of "B". This is a one night only performance, as Mr. Malavet revisits another singing idol from the past. Recently, he presented Very Good Years: The Intimate Sinatra to rave reviews. Billy Eckstine was the legendary heartthrob (from the same era as Sinatra) who rose to fame with such hits and signature tunes as "Skylark," "I Apologize," "A Cottage For Sale" and "Prisoner of Love." For a while, his career surpassed Sinatra's in airplay and popularity. He made his mark on the Great American Songbook. He also discovered Sarah Vaughan as well as played a major role in bringing jazz icons Miles Davis and Charlie Parker to the public eye. And, he was the very first black romantic singer of his day. Interwoven throughout the show is a fascinating blend of anecdotes and music that showcases the musical mastery and stylish balladry of Eckstine. It shares gems of music history such as how he got his big break thanks to a legendary artist and the jazz innovators/legends he discovered and mentored during his long and storied career. Joining Richard will be respected musical director/arranger Lafayette Harris, Jr. on piano, Carlo De Rosa on bass, four time Grammy winner Vince Cherico on drums, Grammy and Latin Grammy winner Peter Brainin on tenor sax and Tim Ouimette on trumpet. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

HOTLINE MEMBER CABARET EVENT IN DUNELLEN, NJ: PEACHES AND CRIME BRING THEATRE AND MUSIC BACK TO RADIO THEATER - AS ADVERTISED IN CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE

HOTLINE MEMBER CABARET EVENT IN DUNELLEN, NJ: PEACHES AND CRIME BRING THEATRE AND MUSIC BACK TO RADIO THEATER - AS ADVERTISED IN CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE

HOTLINE MEMBER CABARET EVENT IN NYC: CD RELEASE EVENT FOR 'SWEET LIFE' - A NEW CD BY JIM SPEAKE - AS ADVERTISED IN CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE

HOTLINE MEMBER CABARET EVENT  IN NYC: CD RELEASE EVENT FOR 'SWEET LIFE' - A NEW CD BY JIM SPEAKE - AS ADVERTISED IN CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE

Jim Speake will celebrate the release of his latest CD - "SWEET LIFE" at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Tuesday, April 12th at 7:00 pm and Saturday, April 16th at 4:00 pm. The show is Directed by Lennie Watts with Musical Direction by Steven Ray Watkins and the SRW Band. Jim will be performing all of the songs from the new recording. There is a $15 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
