L.A.AREA: JOHN VANCE SINGS "THE HENRY MANCINI SONGBOOK" TONIGHT

Actor, recording artist, and cabaret/jazz singer John Vance will brings his new show "The Henry Mancini Songbook" to THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE AT THE JOSLYN CENTER THEATRE (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - 760-340-3220) on Saturday, December 11th at 7:00 pm as part of Les Michaels' Life Is A Cabaret Concert Series which continues through December. He is joined by Jeff Colella on piano. Always interested in acting, Vance earned a BA in Drama from the University of Virginia but singing came first. An early highpoint was singing next to Jack Jones and Kay Starr in "The Glenn Miller Band Reunion" for PBS. But later came a strong career as a character actor, and among his many credits have been roles on television: "Two And A Half Men," "Malcolm In The Middle", movies: "Leatherheads," with George Clooney and Renee Zellweger, "Back To The Beginning," "The Natural," "How I Saved The World," and "Stitches", in addition to numerous theatrical productions, and television commercials. Daniel Reichard, original star of Broadway's "Jersey Boys" and the recent NewYork City Opera revival of "Candide," returns to the New York stage for his annual Christmas concert. This year's show will be held at THE TRIAD (158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-362-2590 - ) on Friday, December 10th at 9:00 pm. The evening will be filled with classic Christmas songs, popular American standards and contemporary hits. Reichard, along with his special guest Beth Malone, and an eight-piece band, will sing the music of George Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, Janelle Monae, Jay-Z, and others. Like the Christmas season itself, this year's show will be both outrageous and heartfelt. Daniel Reichard is currently touring North America with original "Jersey Boys" co-stars Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, and J. Robert Spenceras "The Midtown Men." Her special guest is the multiple award winner, Miles Phillips with musical direction by her longtime collaborator Mark Janas. Julie was Miles' special guest at Feinstein's, recently, and they've each worked with Mark over the years, but this is the first time since 2000 that they've all been working on the same project. Legendary drummer Roy Haynes will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) Tuesday through Saturday, December 7th through 11th, with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Roy has been the pulse of jazz percussion for more than five decades, directing the course of jazz improvisation with his intelligent and joyous drumming. Haynes has played with the likes of Louis Armstrong, Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Sarah Vaughan, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny and many others, lending his unflagging energy and marvelous invention to thousands of performances and recordings.
