From the first time she heard Laura Nyro's music as a teenager, Grace was enthralled and transported by the spirit, passion and poetic storytelling of Laura's songwriting art, and has been interpreting her songs throughout her performing career. Never seeking to imitate the Nyro style, Grace has been able to mesmerize audiences with a sensitivity and sincerity all her own - paying tribute, but never seeking to reproduce that unique voice. Instead, she has always sought to give the shifting tempos and poetic lyrics of Laura Nyro her own personal touch. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

SAD NEWS - ROB LOROCCO LAID TO REST SUNDAY

SAD NEWS: We just received word that musical director. songwriter, arranger, mentor and one of my good friends in cabaret, Rob LoRocco passed away as a result of a massive heart attack and was laid to rest on Sunday.

I am attempting to get more information and will pass along anything additional in Saturday's MEMBERS ONLY issue and again in Monday's regular CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE issue.

Rob was one of the most brilliant "talent spotters" around and often notified me if there was a particularly exciting performer putting on a show that I should see. Through him I discovered the very talented Marcus Simeone plus several others.

NYC: FRANK SINATRA AND THE BROADWAY RABBI

NYC: FRANK SINATRA AND THE BROADWAY RABBI

Seth Lutnick brings his show, " Frank Sinatra and The Broadway Rabbi" toDON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Wednesday, September 5th at 7:00 pm. Seth is an unusual mix. On the one hand, he is an Orthodox rabbi. On the other, he does musical theater. Hence, his stage persona is The Broadway Rabbi. Accompanied by pianist Dan Feyer, this is not an impersonation of Frank Sinatra, but a journey through his life and songs, with Rabbinical commentary. Lutnick will be visiting from Israel, where he directs Israel Musicals, an English language musical theater company, for a performance of his new show, Frankly Sinatra. Frank Sinatra was a bullied, somewhat awkward kid from Hoboken, NJ, an unlikely star. And yet, he became the biggest there was! He had The World on a String, and he found his way into the hearts of, well, everybody. How did he get there? What were his wrong turns, and his right ones? And what about Sinatra, Israel and the Jews? There is a $18 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

OCTOBER CABARET CONVENTION PERFORMERS ANNOUNCED

This year, the 23rd Cabaret Convention will be held Wednesday through Friday, October 17th through 19th at FREDERICK P. ROSE HALL (Columbus Circle, Broadway at 60th Street, NYC). The annual New York City Cabaret Convention, conceived, launched, and brilliantly sustained for the past 23 seasons by The Mabel Mercer Foundation, has honored many specific people and events across the past two decades. Legendary performers, composers, lyricists, and their anniversaries have all had their day and their due as the Convention grew in visibility, stature, and acclaim. But the performances for 2012 are scheduled to convey a level of joy, song, and laughter that quite possibly will top everything that's gone before as they celebrate the man who worked with The Foundation's namesake, created the organization in her memory, and produced countless events to showcase the Great Popular Songbook and those, whether veteran star or hopeful newcomer, who perform it. Donald F. Smith, the Foundation's Executive Director, died in March, but to say his legacy seems gloriously intact is a colossal understatement for the age. A full release on the convention can be found on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE WEBSITE
