NYC: NY THEREMIN SOCIETY: THEREMINAGE A TROIS AT JOE'S PUB

An evening of three accomplished Thereminists is rare enough, but to hear a rendition of Bernard Herrmann's "The Day the Earth Stood Still" performed by a trio of thereminists does not happen every day. Dorit Chrysler, Rob Schwimmer and Scott Robinson attempt the impossible and present their latest solo works (including a number of premieres) and collaborations on Theremin at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Friday, April 17th at 9:00 pm. The NY Theremin Society presents this evening and continues its famed series of showcasing the sonic spectrum of the most underestimated instrument of the 21st century. Dorit Chrysler has been commissioned for the MoMA this year. Her compositions have been performed at the Venice Biennale '13, Lincoln Center, Performa, Vienna Konzerthaus, Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul, Berlin Biennale and Palais Tokyo. Her most recent record "Avalanche" has been produced by Anders Trentem•ller with whom she also toured extensively and headlined Roskilde Festival. Dorit has cofounded the NY Theremin Society and is the founder of America's first Theremin School for Kids, the Kid Cool Theremin School. She is a Moog music artist and is currently holding a long term residency at Pioneerworks.org helping to build their music department. One of today's most wide-ranging instrumentalists, Scott Robinson, has been heard on tenor sax with Buck Clayton's band, on trumpet with Lionel Hampton's quintet, on alto clarinet with Paquito D'Rivera's clarinet quartet, and on bass sax with the New York City Opera. On these and other instruments including theremin and ophicleide, he has been heard with a cross-section of jazz's greats representing nearly every imaginable style of the music, from Braff to Braxton. Rob Schwimmer was theremin soloist with The Orchestra of St. Luke's at Caramoor playing the premiere of Bernard Herrmann's Scene d'Amour from Vertigo performed with theremin for the first time and played theremin and piano on Matthew Barney's epic Cremaster 3 movie. An original member of The NY Theremin Society as well as a founding member of Polygraph Lounge, Rob has worked with Wayne Shorter, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Paul Simon, Bobby McFerrin, Willie Nelson, Chaka Khan, Laurie Anderson, Simon & Garfunkel, Stevie Wonder, Bette Midler, Adam Guettel, T-Bone Walker, Sam Rivers, Marc Shaiman, Trey Anastasio, The Klezmatics, Theo Bleckmann, Christian Marclay, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marshall Brickman, Mary Cleere Haran, Arif Mardin, Mabou Mines, John Cale, Steve Buscemi, Burt Bacharach, The Roches, Edie Brickell, Teo Macero, Hal Willner, Vernon Reid, The Everly Brothers, Ethel, Kurt Vonnegut, Sammy Davis.
