NYC: EXCUSE MY DUST WITH SANDY BAINUM RETURNS NOVEMBER 28th

NYC: EXCUSE MY DUST WITH SANDY BAINUM RETURNS NOVEMBER 28th

The acclaimed cabaret show "Excuse My Dust," inspired by the remarkable life and writings of Mrs. Dorothy Parker, starring D.C. based Sandy Bainum, returns toTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) for one night only on Monday, November 28th at 9:30 pm, where it debuted in June. For a great many of us, the name of Mrs. Dorothy Parker immediately evokes a time, place and sophisticated society when people dressed for the theater, met for supper long after the moon had made its appearance, and considered being "intellectual" a positive attribute. And there, amongst the most celebrated minds of the era was Mrs. Dorothy Parker, an impossibly quick-witted dinner companion, incredibly clever writer and, of course, an eternal romantic. How too-too fabulous it would have been to spend time with her and the renowned writers, actors and critics who held court daily at the Algonquin's famous (and often infamous) Round Table. The show escorts Mrs. Parker to the soiree with quotes and quips and many of her poems, set to glorious, period-perfect melodies written by EMMY Award winning composer/arranger Lanny Meyers. Rounding out the evening are songs from other luminaries of the era including Lorenz Hart, Noel Coward and Cole Porter - making for a most marvelous party. Ms. Bainum, a regular on the Washington, D.C theater scene, made her Broadway debut in David Merrick's legendary production of 42nd Street. Since moving to D.C. with her husband, the former Maryland State Senator, Stewart Bainum, Sandy has performed leading roles at many of Washington's top theatrical venues including the Kennedy Center, Washington Savoyards and the Signature Theatre. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Julie Reyburn, Scott Coulter, Kenneth Gartman, Christina Connors and Alex Goley join forces for THE STORIES IN MY MIND: THE SONGS OF DENNIS LIVINGSTON atTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440). There are two more performances: Saturday October 29th; and Sunday, November 27th. Both shows are at 4:00 pm. Scott also serves as Director and Kenneth as Music Director. Sometimes surreal, always compelling, the songs of Dennis Livingston are known for their witty lyrics, theatrical flare, vivid imagery and intricate melodies. A touch of the blues here, a soaring ballad there, the sudden breakout of a samba or tango, a chorus that echoes the 19th century art song - you never know what's around the corner in these musical tales of life in our time. Dennis' songs have been performed by some of the leading cabaret artists in solo and group shows, including those held by the MAC-ASCAP Songwriters Showcase, the New York Sheet Music Society and Theater Resources Unlimited. Recordings of his songs can be heard on CDs from Chris Coleman, Lua Hadar, Robyn Spangler and Dane Vannatter, as well as at his website (http://www.dennislivingston.com). There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum. $10 cover for members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.
