Lucio Fernandez, 2008 MAC Award nominee and winner of the ITRA Award, Star Award, and Premio ARTE Award, will be performing his new show "Lucio ... Less Cuban Than Ever" opening on Friday, October 15th at 7:30 pm at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909). Additional performances are scheduled for Fridays, October 21st, 28th and November 11th, all shows at 9:00 pm. Lucio, accompanied by a nine-piece band, will be performing Broadway tunes, Latin standards, and even a few original songs. The show centers on Lucio's life story; born in Cuba, his experiences growing up in "Jersey", and eventually becoming a City Commissioner. From poverty to politics as a City Commissioner ... from playing barefoot in ditches with paper boats as a kid to singing in New York City ... this is Lucio's story. He was born in Havana, Cuba to a poor family. His mother was a seamstress and one of sixteen children. He and his mother had to leave Cuba when he was still a child due to political reasons, and because his father was a political prisoner. They lived in Spain for one year before arriving in the United States. They settled in New Jersey, where he still calls home. After graduating from Rutgers University he became a professional actor traveling the world with several Broadway shows. Increasingly becoming more socially conscious, he set out to help others, leading him to become involved with many charities, serving on many boards, and finally becoming a Commissioner for the City of Union City. In his act, "Lucio ... Less Cuban Than Ever", he discusses the challenges of being an artist while serving as a "politician". He jokes about being a Cuban-American singing Broadway tunes, and of being an artist in the world of "machismo". The show is directed by multi-MAC Award winning director Lennie Watts; musical arrangements & direction by Mark Goodman; choreography by Megan Fernandez; and written by Gerard Karabin and Fernandez. The show also features Larry Piscitelli, Amy Smith and Megan Fernandez with Alexander Diaz & Constanza Palavecino. There is a $25 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.

Kathleen France returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) in BOOK OF LOVE: CHAPTER 2 ACOUSTICALLY DYSFUNCTIONAL on Monday, October 10th at 9:30 pm, further pursuing her quest to learn all about, and to find, true love. A sequel to her original BOOK OF LOVE cabaret debut show, nominated for a 2010 MAC Award, which focused on learning everything she could about love through reading books on the subway, she has come to the realization in Chapter 2 that maybe these fairy tales aren't all they're cracked up to be. Perhaps acquiring knowledge about matters of the heart through book smarts is only one part of the equation. Love is not an easy road to travel. Maybe we need to rely on street smarts as well. This show will also mark the CD RELEASE of Chapter One (the original), which was recorded live at the Metropolitan Room and produced by Miranda Music. Come see the new show, and be one of the first to purchase her BOOK OF LOVE: LIVE AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM original cds. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum. $10 cover for members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.
