PALM SPRINGS: CHRISTINA BIANCO IN "DIVA MOMENTS" AT FEINSTEIN'S
Acclaimed performer & YouTube sensation, Christina Bianco brings her versatile vocals and celebrity impressions to the West Coast and THE COPA (244 East Amado Road, Palm Springs CA - 760-866-0021) on Saturday, July 21st at 8:00 pm. Her show 'Diva Moments' is made up of songs that made divas out of the women who sang them. From Barbra Streisand to Celine Dion to Judy Garland, no celebrity is safe! Musical Direction is by Michael Orland. Praised for her work in Forbidden Broadway and Newsical The Musical, Drama Desk Award nominated actress Christina Bianco will perform these beloved songs in her own voice, as well as impersonating the great divas themselves! Song selections range from Broadway classics to well-known standards and popular hits, including: Somewhere Over The Rainbow, What Did I Have That I Don't Have, Last Dance and a few Forbidden Broadway gems. There is a $50 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
LOS ANGELES: CHAMBERS, HERBERT, & ELLIS AT THE GARDENIA
Pierre Chambers, Lisa Herbert, and Mitch Ellis will perform at THE GARDENIA(7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Friday & Saturday, June 20th & 21st at 9:00 pm. The vocal trio have struck a mother lode of unique and exhilarating musical material through exhuming, creatively re-working, and re-inventing works of legendary jazz artists through the nearly lost art of "vocalese": assigning what would generally be considered instrumental riffs to the human voice. Creating an impact reminiscent of The Manhattan Transfer, the group's repertoire pays homage to the vocal treatments of Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross, many of which were themselves based on Ellington or Basie big band arrangements. Their popularity continues to increase as word of mouth spreads, and the "buzz" surrounding them is well-deserved. If you have yet to experience the musical excitement this unique trio consistently generates, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better time or a better place. Call for cover/minimum information.
