NYC: JAZZ IN JULY AT THE 92nd ST Y - I WON'T DANCE: THE FRED ASTAIRE SONGBOOK
The 92nd ST Y (1395 Lexington Avenue, NYC - 212-415-5500) presents JAZZ IN JULY, running from Tuesday, July 22nd through Thursday, July 31st. Featuring the sounds of Hoagy Carmichael, Leonard Bernstein, Miles Davis, Dick Hyman, Sarah Vaughan and Fred Astaire. Celebrate Bill Charlap's 10th anniversary as Artistic Director as he returns with more than three dozen world-class jazz artists to celebrate the 30th annual Jazz in July Festival. What better reason to stay in the city for the summer than to hear Jazz in July founder Dick Hyman plus beloved jazz greats Jimmy Greene, Jeremy Pelt, Ken Peplowski and more! Fred Astaire proved to be a jazz master, using his innate sense of rhythm and swing to collaborate with songwriting legends. The show on Thursday, July 31st features Sachal Vasandani, Ken Peplowski, Michael Dease, Bucky Pizzarelli, Renee Rosnes, Bill Charlap, George Mraz, Carl Allen, Randy Skinner. NYC: BROADWAY SINGS AT THE WEST END - THURSDAYS
A New Open mic night has begun hosted by Sarah Rice & Craig Pomranz on the Upper West Side! BROADWAY SINGS AT THE WEST END will be held every Thursday night (it started on May 1st) at THE WEST END (955 West End Avenue, NYC - 212-531-4759) from 9:00 to 11:00 pm (signup after 8:30 pm). Matthew Martin Ward will be at the piano. An open mic with multi-award winning hosts Sarah and Craig bring the ultimate New York experience to the Upper West Side with all kinds of talent singing all genres of music -Broadway, Pop, Jazz, Classical, all are welcomed. There will be a drawing at the end of the evening to get to sing another song and get a free cover for the following week. LONDON: OPEN MIC NIGHT RETURNS IN LONDON WITH HAROLD SANDITEN
Open Mic with host Harold Sanditen returns on Thursday, September 12th and every Thursday thereafter at London's THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888). This is a unique open mic in the West End, having an acoustic baby grand piano and a bass player. Michael Roulston and Jonty Fisher will be regular musicians - and both are versed at both jazz and more theatrical songs. Aimed at both the jazz and theatrical communities, The Crazy Coqs Open Mic Night welcomes all singers, composers and musicians, up & coming and established, who want to do a turn, performing new material or old favourites. For the audience, come and catch that proverbial 'rising star' (or possibly a famous West End name) in the intimate, "jewel-box" surroundings of The Crazy Coqs. Call for cover/minimum information.
