Nationally recognized actor and vocalist Gia Mora announces the return of her newest solo show, Einstein's Girl, toTHE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Friday & Saturday, May 17th & 18th at 9:00 pm. Einstein's Girl explores the science of love ... theoretically speaking. Mora turns her signature wit and intellectual prowess on an unlikely pair of human languages: love and mathematics. In her hilarious show, she investigates interpersonal relations in the digital age through song and story. Composer and multi- instrumentalist Charlie Barnett will accompany Mora on piano. Mora brings a twenty-first century twist to the art of cabaret combining original music, jazz standards, stand-up comedy, and a crash course in cutting edge science. Gia Mora is a triple-threat performer and writer. Past solo performances include headlining at Don't Tell Mama in New York; The Gardenia and House of Blues in Los Angeles; Bethesda Blues & Jazz and Blues Alley in Washington, DC; Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret in Denver; and An Die Musik and Germano's in Baltimore. She is a four-time Helen Hayes Award nominee, and her recent musical theatre credits include world premieres at Ford's Theatre and the Kennedy Center. Latin Jazz Legend Arturo Sandoval will perform at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) Thursday through Sunday, May 16th through 19th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Granted political asylum in July 1990 and US citizenship in 1999, Sandoval and his family now call Miami, Florida home. A protege of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, Sandoval was born in Artemisa, a small town in the outskirts of Havana, Cuba, on November 6, 1949, just two years after Gillespie became the first musician to bring Latin influences into American Jazz. Sandoval began studying classical trumpet at the age of twelve, but it didn't take him long to catch the excitement of the jazz world. He has since evolved into one of the World's most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugel horn, as well as a renowned classical artist, pianist and composer. In COURTNEY ACT: BOYS LIKE ME, the multi-talented drag idol sings her favorite songs and divulges the fascinating and funny dirty laundry list that is her sex life. There's that angry text from a straight boy's girlfriend, the twins in Montreal, and the US Marine, just to name a few of the titillating encounters she details in story and song. 2012 MetroStar and Bistro Award winner, Billie Roe returns to the cabaret stage atTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) performing in tribute her all-time favorite songwriter Tom Waits. Shows are scheduled for Wednesday, May 15th at 7:00 pm; Thursday, May 16th at 7:00 pm; Friday, May 17th at 7:00 pm; and Saturday, May 18th at 9:30 pm. Through Waits' music Billie will examine the real life 'film noir' events of the dirty, dangerous and destitute world of NYC in 1978, the year when, in all her youthful innocence, she began her singing career in New York. Help Is On The Way Today, a 501c3 non-profit that assists children and youth living with HIV/AIDS, will hold their annual Gala on May 19th at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909). The May 19th Gala will include a cocktail hour at 5:00 pm, with unlimited wine, beer, soda and special Gala cocktails, followed by a buffet dinner and dessert at 6:00 pm, a live auction with glamorous fashion, entertainment and travel items, and a show featuring Eric Michael Gillett, Stacy Sullivan, Gretchen Reinhagen, Alison Nusbaum, Hedda Lettuce and more performers to be announced. At the show, the 2013 Cabaret Cares Ruth Kurtzman Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Peter Leavy, the publisher of Cabaret Scenes magazine. Over the course of a stellar career that has spanned more than 30 years, saxophonist Kenny Garrett has become the preeminent alto saxophonist of his generation. From his first gig with the Duke Ellington Orchestra (led by Mercer Ellington) through his time spent with musicians such as Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers and Miles Davis, Garrett has always brought a vigorous yet melodic, and truly distinctive, alto saxophone sound to each musical situation. As a bandleader for the last two decades, he has also continually grown as a composer. With his latest recording (and second for Mack Avenue Records), Seeds From The Underground, Garrett has given notice that these qualities have not only become more impressive, but have provided him with the platform to expand his horizons and communicate his musical vision clearly. Seeds From The Underground is a powerful return to the straight-ahead, acoustic and propulsive quartet format that showcases Garrett's extraordinary abilities.
