MW: SHANNON FORSELL RELEASES TRIBUTE CD TO HOAGY CARMICHAEL

Indiana native and managing director of THE CABARET AT THE COLUMBIA CLUB, Shannon Forsell, presents a tribute to one of the great composers of popular song, Indiana's own Hoagy Carmichael ("Stardust," "Georgia On My Mind," "The Nearness of You.") on Saturday, January 15th with performances at 7:00 & 9:00 pm at THE JAZZ KITCHEN (5377 North College Avenue, Indianapolis, IN - 317-253-4900). The 11-song new release celebrates the music of Indiana's Hoagy Carmichael and showcases Forsell as she expands her cabaret vocal prowess to the jazz arena. Produced and arranged by international jazz artist, Rob Dixon, the recording blends several of Carmichael's most well known songs ("The Nearness of You," "Stardust," "Georgia On My Mind") along with his less-recorded musical gems. Backed by critically acclaimed jazz musicians Zach Lapidus: piano, Rob Dixon: saxophone, Frank Smith: bass, Greg Artry: drums, P J Yinger: ukulele and trumpet, the recording blends straight ahead jazz with a contemporary twist, demonstrating the timelessness of the music of one of the American Songbook's great composers. Feature: Paul Champlin
Pianist: Doug Hammer
Wednesday, January 26
7:00 p.m. sign-up
7:30 p.m. Open Mic

We held out until the last minute...but Mother Nature had her way!

Please join us Wednesday, January 26, for the Cabaret Open Mic. Our feature will be the dynamic Paul Champlin. An experienced performer, Paul sings with a full and beautiful voice, communicating the meaning of each song. Doug Hammer will be at the piano. Many of us are familiar with Doug, who is a pleasure to sing with. Both of these musicians are first-rate.

In our new format, sign-up to sing is at 7 p.m.
The Open Mic will begin promptly at 7:30.
The feature will perform for half an hour at 8:10.

Paul Champlin returns to the cabaret stage following a 10 year hiatus from the medium.  A local native, he was raised on musical and dramatic theater and in 1982, established the Enter Stage Left Theater Company in Hopkinton with some High School friends and colleagues.  Over the years, he has performed in countless plays and musicals for Massachusetts and Rhode Island theaters and performance companies.
He was introduced to cabaret in 1994, studied with Helen Baldassare and began a long-time collaboration with musician/arranger Doug Hammer.  Paul was featured in a string of cabaret performances, one of which prompted a reviewer to inquire, "Where have you been all our lives?"  His last cabaret outing was in 2000, in his one-man show, "Shades of Darkness, Shades of Light".
In the ensuing years, Paul has developed and directed multiple, highly-regarded dramas and musicals for Enter Stage Left Theater.  His 2009 production of TWELVE ANGRY MEN garnered a nomination for Best Ensemble Cast from The Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theaters.
Over the last few years, he has slowly ventured on stage again, rekindling a passion for performing, prompting a return to the cabaret stage.

This will be a really fun evening, so come, relax, enjoy, listen or sing, and be with this group of warm and friendly cabaret-lovers.

BRIAN DE LORENZO'S 1/12 SCULLERS SHOW CANCELLED - TO BE RE-SCHEDULED

BRIAN DE LORENZO'S SCULLERS SHOW CANCELLED - TO BE RE-SCHEDULED

"Brian De Lorenzo...and Friends", scheduled for Wednesday, January 12th at SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111 - http://www.scullersjazz.com/ ) has been
cancelled because of the impending snowstorm. We're all disappoointed, but we would
probably have had a very small audience if we decided to go on with the show. The Mayor
of Boston has, in fact, declared a snow emergency as of 9 PM tonite and has cancelled school for Wednesday.

I will let you know ASAP when I have a new date. I hope those of you who had other plans tomorrow nite will be able to attend the re-scheduled show.
