Kevin Wood presents a cabaret travelogue: 'Sentimental Journeys!' atDAVENPORT'S (1383 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL - 773-278-1830) on Saturday, September 21st at 8:00 pm. Along with musical director Beckie Menzie, Kevin Wood invites you to join on a cabaret "staycation" featuring songs and stories that reflect various journeys we make through life. Humorous and poignant with a wide variety of music, including Broadway, off-Broadway, and standards. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Jazz-pop chanteuse Cassandra Wilson will perform at BETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Friday & Saturday, September 20th & 21st at 8:00 pm. Cassandra Wilson is a world renowned vocalist, songwriter, and producer, with an extraordinary following. From the standards on Blue Skies to the Grammy-winning New Moon Daughter, and from the combination of originals and interpretations on both the Belly of the Sun (2001) and Glamoured (2003) to her more recent albums Thunderbird (2006) and Grammy-winning Loverly (2008), Wilson has always continued evolving as a vocalist, songwriter, and producer. Silver Pony, Wilson's most recent project and recipient of the 2011 Soul Train Award for Best Traditional Jazz Album, is the latest step in her evolution. It features a mix of jazz and pop classics as well as songs newly written by Wilson and her band. There is a $50 cover.
Saxophonist Walter Beasley will perform at SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Friday & Saturday, September 20th & 21st with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Over the past two decades, Walter Beasley has artfully and dynamically redefined the phrase "musical Renaissance Man" for the modern generation. The Marcus Roberts Trio with Marcus Roberts, piano; Rodney Jordan, bass; Jason Marsalis, drums, perform atDIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258 ) on Thursday through Sunday, September 18th through 22nd with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. A leading and, in some ways, unparalleled piano trio, formed by three top representatives of their instruments, the Marcus Roberts Trio is one of the easiest recommendations in jazz. Anyone interested in piano jazz, or in the larger genre itself, should not hesitate to reserve a seat with us for this series. Featuring Marcus Roberts, Rodney Jordan, and Jason Marsalis, the group plays originals and versions of standards that are full of surprises, yet somehow always accessible. Few groups manage to so constantly display creativity and virtuosity without at some point getting mired by uncomfortable or questionable abstractions, but the Marcus Roberts Trio, action-packed and always tasteful, is as solid as they come. There is a $35-$40-$45 cover, depending on day of week.

BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) presents 'Coltrane Revisited' Tuesday through Saturday, September 17th through 21st with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. The all-star quintet includes pianist Steve Kuhn, tenor saxophonists Mark Turner & Eric Alexander, drummer Andrew Cyrille and bassists Lonnie Plaxico (9/17-19) and Ben Allison (9/20-21). Pianist Steve Kuhn first made his mark during a brief stint with John Coltrane's quartet. He recently released a critically acclaimed ECM recording exploring Coltrane's repertoire. At Birdland, Kuhn leads an annual all-star gathering in celebration of the legendary saxophonist and jazz innovator's birthday. Born in North Carolina in 1926, John Coltrane emerged on the jazz scene in the 1950s, playing tenor and soprano sax with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. A pioneer of "hard bop" in the 1960s, he led his own groups and reinvented jazz with experimentation and improvisation, his later recordings reflecting his belief that music was a form of spiritual expression. There is a $35-$45 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.



Cabaret favorites Tommy Femia and Rick Skye have teamed up for another evening of "Judy and Liza Together Again" at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Saturdays September 21st & 28th at 8:00 pm. They are joined by Ricky Ritzel (as Mort) at the piano. These MAC Award winning performers (Best Impersonation) will pull out all the stops, singing classic solo's, parodies, duets and just plain whooping and hollering by the greatest mother/ daughter team in show biz history. Tommy Femia is a 7 time winner of the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC) Award for his brilliant portrayal of Judy Garland in "Judy Garland LIVE!", now in it's 20th season at Don't Tell Mama. He has also starred in "Whoop-de-doo", "I Will Come Back" and, most recently, "Norma Does Men". Rick Skye is best known for writing a string of outrageous comic revues including "The Flip Side of Neil Sedaka", "MaCabaret - a tabloid fable", "The War of the Mama Roses", "It's Madame with an E" and the International hit - "A Slice O' Minnelli" for which has enjoyed successful season's in Covent Garden, at the Apollo Theatre in London's West End and at the Dublin Theatre Festival where he received the Award for "Best Achievement in Performance". There is a $25 cover charge and a 2 drink minimum.

The very accomplished film, theatre and TV actress, comedienne, Celia Imrie makes her debut as a cabaret artist at THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888) Tuesday through Saturday, September 17th through 21st at 8:00 pm with her show LAUGHING MATTERS. In these tough times, Celia really believes that laughing matters. She will be performing songs and sketches by popular writers such as Jerry Herman, Lynda La Plante, Neil Sedaka, Dorothy Parker, Carole King, Arabella Weir, Noel Coward, Charles Strouse and Mozart. On stage with Celia will be her musical director and pianist Nick Finlow, currently the Musical Director of The Book of Mormons and associate musical supervisor for Jersey Boys and Mamma Mia. On drums will be Mike Porter. Director is Fidelis Morgan. Designer - Gregor Donnelly; Choreographer - Steven Harris. Celia is an Olivier Award-winning English actress. In a career starting in the early 1970s, Imrie has played Marianne Bellshade in Bergerac, Philippa Moorcroft in Dinnerladies, Miss Babs in Acorn Antiques, Diana Neal in After You've Gone and Gloria Millington in Kingdom.
Tex-Jazz Vocalist Kellye Gray returns to the Bay Area to perform at SF JAZZ (201 Franklin Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-920-5299) on Friday, September 20th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. For her SFJAZZ Center debut, she performs an intimate show in the Joe Henderson Lab to celebrate the release of her new album, And, They Call Us Cowboys: The Texas Music Project, which re-imagines the timeless and diverse music of the Lone Star State through the filter of Gray's jazz sensibility. She is joined on stage by Pamela York (piano), Jake Langley (guitar), Marcus Shelby (bass) and David Flores (drums). With her stunning musicality and warm, enveloping voice, Texas native (and Bay Area resident) Kellye Gray is one of the most accomplished jazz vocalists on the national scene. Over her twenty-year career, Gray's profile has continued to grow by leaps and bounds. She has recorded a half-dozen albums as a leader and logged performances at Lincoln Center, The Spoleto Festival and Yoshi's. Tickets are $25.

After an almost twelve year hiatus, GO MAHAN returns to cabaret performance with his all new show "GO TO BREL! Go Mahan salutes Jacques Brel". The show will be presented as part of The Phoenix Theatre Ensemble's Fall Repertory Season and will be performed at THE PARADISE FACTORY THEATRE (64 East 4th Street, NYC - 212-465-3446).
