NY STATE: RIVERFEST JAZZ EVENT FEATURES THE ELLI FORDYCE QUINTET

The Elli Fordyce Quintet will again open Riverfest's Jazz and Blues Stage at theAMPHITHEATRE ON THE HUDSON (Main Street, Yonkers, NY) on Saturday, September 10th from noon until 1:00 pm. Elli will be joined by Neil Alexander on keyboards, Ratzo Harris on bass, Phil Stewart on drums, and featured on sax, Carl Bartlett, Jr. Originally from Manhattan, Elli Fordyce is a highly accomplished vocalist and actor. She has performed all over the New York Metro area and throughout North America, including appearances in the New York Cabaret Convention and in festivals. Elli also has numerous acting credits, including the film "September 12th," Comedy Central's "Chappelle's Show" and a theatrical production of "Guys and Dolls." This is a free concert open to the public.

METROJAM, the cabaret/jazz open mic event held at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), will be presented twice in September, on Fridays, September 9th & 23rd at 10:00 pm, featuring host Jenna Esposito. Accompaniment is provided by the MetroJam house band: John DiPinto on piano, Ritt Henn on bass, and Bobby Sher on drums. Each week, Jenna welcomes a special guest. Open-mic performers have a chance to perform with a full jazz band. NYC: JAZZ PIANO IN BRYANT PARK WITH DARYL SHERMAN

Daryl Sherman will be performing at BRYANT PARK (Upper Terrace, Sixth Ave at 42nd Street, NYC ) on Monday through Friday, September 5th through 9th from 12:30 to 2:20 pm. Sherman is internationally acclaimed for a stellar 14-year run at the Waldorf-Astoria where she played Cole Porter's Steinway. Last June, she headlined the annual Cole Porter Festival in his hometown of Peru, IN. Sherman has performed at The Algonquin's Oak Room, Feinstein's, Rose Hall with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Dizzy's Coca Cola and 59E59 Theaters where she was lauded for her band singer role in a centennial tribute to Artie Shaw. As a sparkling mainstay of Manhattan's nightlife, there's hardly jazz joint, supper club, Chinese restaurant or hotel that Daryl has missed. Her many recordings are in regular national rotation on Cable TV's Music Choice and Sirius/XM Radio. She was presented the 2010 MAC Award "Best Major Recording" for her Johnny Mercer Centennial CD - which was used in a Mercer documentary produced by Clint Eastwood. This is a FREE event.

NYC: SIGALI PRESENTS A TOAST TO AVA GARDNER

Sigali Hamberger returns to the cabaret stage on Thursdays, September 8th & 22nd at 9:30 pm with her acclaimed show: A Toast to Ava Gardner at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440). Inspired by both the life and films of one of the 20th century's most alluring screen goddesses, the show draws heavily from the American songbook standards of the 30s and 40s and 50s. While one can expect a song or two from Ava's films, Sigali explores the ups and downs of Ava's extraordinary life with music from Gershwin and Weill to Mercer and Mancini. Accompanying Sigali on the piano is Musical Director & Arranger, Ido Alexander. The show is directed by Scott Coulter. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: DOUBLE CD RELEASE PARTY FOR MARK WINKLER & PHIL SWANN

Mark Winkler will hold a CD release party for his new recording SWEET SPOT on Thursday, September 8th at 7:00 pm at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909). Lots of crowd favorites like Somewhere in Brazil and Sweet Spot are on the new disc, as well as Mark's renditions of such standards as But Not For Me and On Broadway. He will be joined by a very special guest, Phil Swann (his co writer on Play It Cool) who will be having a CD release party for his new album, STALE SCOTCH AND CHEAP CIGARS. Phil's CD is a master class in songwriting and late night saloon singing, featuring the cream of musicians and 10 Swann songs that sound like extra pages from the Great American Songbook. This night is also a celebration for their jazz film noir musical Play It Cool which opens in New York City on 42nd Street on September 14th. Both Mark and Phillip have recorded songs from Play It Cool on their new CDs - so a special evening should be had by all. They will be joined by the Eli Brueggemann quartet-and some surprise guests. There is a $20 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum..

The Tudor City Greens FREE outdoor concert series scheduled for today, Thursday, September 8th at 6:30 pm at TUDOR CITY GREENS OARK (enter at Tudor City Place between East 42nd and East 43rd Streets).CONCERT AT TUDOR GREENS - scheduled for today at 6:30 pm in NYC has been cancelled. Host/producer Raissa Katonah Bennet, writes: "this is the first time we've ever completely had to lose a concert in the season, but then again, this has been a historic weather year. I might have waited a bit to seen if it would clear up, but even if that were to happen, the fact is, I've just come from surveying the parks, and pigeons are using our playing area as a water park." The series' continues, weather permitting, on October 5th at 6:30 pm.

Hosted By Tom Gamblin, the evening will feature performances by Marla Green, Darron Cardosa, Julia Cook, Brad Wills, Liz McKendry, Tanya Holt, Eddie Jacques, Lorinda Lisitza and Mark McCombs. The new season of the Tudor City Greens FREE outdoor concert series continues on Wednesday, September 7th at 6:30 pm at TUDOR CITY GREENS OARK (enter at Tudor City Place between East 42nd and East 43rd Streets). This event will feature professional performers from Broadway and the New York City cabaret and jazz scene, who all donate their time and talent to benefit the Parks. The concert will be hosted by Tudor City resident, Broadway and cabaret performer Raissa Katona Bennett (Phantom of the Opera, Chess). This months concert features John Dipinto, Natalie Douglas, Kevin Dozier, Kenneth Gartman, H2 - Harkness & Herriott, Jim Van Slyke, Terese Genecco with David Caldwell and Cindy Gooden as accompanists. At the August concert, Bennett announced a songwriting contest of songs celebrating New York's green spaces, and the different roles they play in the lives of New Yorkers. A blue-ribbon panel of well-known singer-songwriters and music industry executives, who will help choose the contest's top songs (to be performed throughout the 2012 season), was announced as well. The series' continues, weather permitting, on October 5th at 6:30 pm.
