What does she have against neighborhood girls and their little dogs, too? What becomes of her after that tornado? And most important of all: who's the real woman beneath that ferocious facade? Now, the biddy is back in all the glory Hollywood denied her! In this unforgettable metaphorical musical, Miss Gulch gives us the dirt. She lays her soul bare (and yours if you dare). And she belts a mean tune. Tickets are $25 ($20 on Sundays).

Barbara Carroll's still evolving career as a jazz pianist began when she played her first New York engagement opposite Dizzy Gillespie's big band at the Downbeat Club in 1947. A thrilling if a trifle unsettling debut for a young female pianist from Worcester, Massachusetts who began playing the piano at five and who's family was wise enough to give her lessons that provided her with a basic knowledge of classical technique. In 1978, she was booked into the Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle hotel for a two week engagement - and stayed for twenty five years. It was at the Carlyle that she began to feature her singing as an integral part of her performances. Following her 25 years at the Carlyle, she is well into another long run in the famous Oak Room at New York's Algonquin Hotel, making a significant and successful effort to incorporate jazz playing into a cabaret venue. Other recent engagements have included concerts at Philharmonic Hall in Naples, Florida, the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, concerts at the Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts as well as twelve sold out performances at Dizzy's Club, at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Since the early '80s, his combination of unparalleled instrumental chops and indelible melodies has resulted in sales of more than 75 million records worldwide (45 million in the U.S. alone) and more than a dozen climbs to the top of Billboard's Contemporary Jazz chart. After the success of Rhythm and Romance (2008) and Heart and Soul (2010), the second of which was a return to the classic R&B sounds of his Seattle childhood, Kenny has taken a step in a new direction with his latest release, Namaste India (2012). A collaboration with Indian santoor player and vocalist Rahul Sharma, the album captures both the natural meditative sound of Indian classical music and the flamboyant jazz melodies of the saxophone. NYC: LEGENDARY BLUES/ROCK BAND SAVOY BROWN AT THE IRIDIUM

Legendary blues/rock band Savoy Brown will perform atIRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB (1650 Broadway, NYC - 212-582-2121 - ) on Saturday, October 19th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. One of the earliest of British blues bands, Savoy Brown, with founder guitarist Kim Simmonds at the helm, helped launch the 1967 UK blues boom movement that brought blues music back to the USA invigorating the style forever. In the process, the band became part of the framework that launched the rock and roll music of the 1970's. Their influence now stretches into modern rock as we know it today. Singer Chris Youlden joined the band in 1968 and many classic records appeared with songs such as "I'm Tired" and "Louisiana Blues" becoming radio staples. By 1971, Youlden had departed on a solo career and band members Dave Peverett, Roger Earle, and Tony Stevens had left to form their own group Foghat. Kim Simmonds rebuilt the band using former members of the blues band Chicken Shack and vocalist Dave Walker. That year, "Street Corner Talking" brought the band its best chart success up to that date. "Tell Mama", "Street Corner Talking", "All I Can Do Is Cry" and the band's funky re-make of the Motown classic, "I Can't Get Next To You", took the band to platinum status and placed them in front of wildly enthusiastic rock audiences in arenas all over the world. There is a $35 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
