Keyboardist Jeff Lorber, jazz guitar favorite Chuck Loeb and saxophonist Everette Harper will perform on Saturday, August 17th at 8:00 pm atBETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500). By the late 1970s, trailblazing keyboardist/producer Jeff Lorber had become a prominent figure in the new movement known as jazz fusion - a marriage of traditional jazz with elements of rock, R&B, funk and other electrified sounds. Lorber's music reaches a new level by crystallizing jazz, funk, and Latin rhythms with some killer melodies that translate exceptionally to live performance. More than just a jazz guitar player, Chuck Loeb is the consummate musician. In a career that spans four decades, he has proven himself to be a versatile composer, arranger and producer in a wide range of musical styles and contexts. CLUELESS, an evening showcasing the work of up-and-coming composer-lyricist Addison O'Donnell, will be presented at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Saturday, August 17th at 7:30 pm. From his bold and anthemic score to SLEEPY HOLLOW, to stand alone songs with a more traditional musical theatre feel, this night will be an opportunity to debut his body of work and spark the further development of these and other projects. Cabaret favorites Tommy Femia and Rick Skye have teamed up for another evening of "Judy and Liza Together Again" at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Saturdays August 3rd, 17th and 31st at 8:00 pm. They are joined by Ricky Ritzel (as Mort) at the piano. These MAC Award winning performers (Best Impersonation) will pull out all the stops, singing classic solo's, parodies, duets and just plain whooping and hollering by the greatest mother/ daughter team in show biz history. Tommy Femia is a 7 time winner of the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC) Award for his brilliant portrayal of Judy Garland in "Judy Garland LIVE!", now in it's 20th season at Don't Tell Mama. He has also starred in "Whoop-de-doo", "I Will Come Back" and, most recently, "Norma Does Men". Rick Skye is best known for writing a string of outrageous comic revues including "The Flip Side of Neil Sedaka", "MaCabaret - a tabloid fable", "The War of the Mama Roses", "It's Madame with an E" and the International hit - "A Slice O' Minnelli" for which has enjoyed successful season's in Covent Garden, at the Apollo Theatre in London's West End and at the Dublin Theatre Festival where he received the Award for "Best Achievement in Performance". Clare and Joe combine their wealth of musical talent with this brand new duo collaboration. Pianist/vocalist Eliane Elias will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Thursday & Friday, August 15th & 16th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. She is touring her new album I Thought About You (A Tribute To Chet Baker) which was released on May 28, 2013 by Concord Jazz. This album offers her personalized spin on the work of a key American jazz artist while spotlighting her connection to the singer-instrumentalist tradition. It fully demonstrates the range of interests that Elias' art now boasts, and arrives with a statement of purpose: jazz repertoire can sound totally fresh when delivered with ingenuity and passion. Long known for her native feel of Brazilian music, this new disc truly demonstrates Elias' expertise in yet another realm: an interpreter of American standards. An expressive, swinging singer and insightful instrumentalist and arranger, on I Thought About You she thoughtfully switches the size and approach of her impressive ensemble from track to track, yielding to each tune's inner logic. Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet (UVJQ) will perform at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Friday through Sunday, August 16th through 18th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. The Quartet puts its sublime signature on an engaging but rarely heard vocal jazz genre and breathes new life into the tradition of the great harmonizing vocal groups with its new cool: a repertoire of swinging, tightly harmonized originals and a sound that is quickly becoming a vocalese classic. The Lucian Gray Quartet (with Norbert Botos - Drums, Amanda Tosoff - Piano and Jon Maharaj - Bass) will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, August 15th, 16th & 17th at 8:00 pm. Toronto-born Lucian Gray began his musical journey as a bassist. He began playing the guitar only a few years before he won the 2009 Rising Young Star Award. He is a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where he attended on a full scholarship. Berklee, arguably the best music school in the world for aspiring jazz guitarists, proved a fertile training ground for Lucian and he has returned to Toronto playing to rave reviews at every outing. He brought down the house at Molly Johnson's recent Massey Hall concert where he was a featured guest. There is a $12-$15 cover.
