Saxophoneist George Brooks will perform a rare duo concert with Indian bansuri (bamboo flute) maestro, Ronu Majumdar titled Masters of the Wind. on Saturday, May 25th at 8:00 pm atVANCOUVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE AUDITORIUM (1155 East Broadway, Vancouver, BC, CA -http://www.brownpapertickets.com). They will be joined by Ramdas Palsule (tabla). Ronu is a leading exponent of north Indian classical music and has performed with George Harrison, Ravi Shankar and Ry Cooder . George Brooks is considered the "leading American voice" in Indian jazz fusion and has performed with Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, Terry Riley, and Etta James. Ronu and George have been performing together for the past ten years, often in the company of jazz guitarist Larry Coryell with their group Bombay Jazz. Tickets are $25-$30.

Cabaret On The Green will take place on Saturdays in May from 7:30 to 10:00 pm. Dinner reservations for tables in the main room are highly advised or open seating is available in the lounge. Randy Brecker has been shaping the sound of Jazz, R&B and Rock for more than four decades. His trumpet and flugelhorn performances have graced hundreds of albums by a wide range of artists. Jeremy Pelt has become one of the preeminent young trumpeters within the world of jazz. Forging a bond with the Mingus Big Band very early on, as his career progressed, Pelt built upon these relationships and many others which eventually lead to collaborations with some of the genre's greatest masters. Bollenback got his earliest musical nudge from his father, a classically trained trumpeter who first provided the 7-year-old son with a nylon-string guitar - and then provided a new world of inspiration. Lonnie Plaxico, the middle child in a family of musicians, inherited a gift for music that was discovered and nurtured early. By the age of twelve he had taught himself to play the electric bass, and he was soon venturing into Chicago's music scene, renowned for its mix of jazz, funk and blues. Steve Smith's drumming, while always decidedly modern, can best be described as a style that embodies the history of U.S. music. His musical focus is committed to the exploration of improvised music incorporating styles as diverse as Blues, Jazz, R&B, Funk, Cajun and South Indian Carnatic. Barbara Carroll's inventive piano playing and unique vocal sound transforms any composition into something hip and urbane. In a sixty-year career she has gone from being dubbed "the first girl ever to play bebop piano" by Leonard Feather in 1947, to today being dubbed a "singer who turns song lyrics into personal dramatic monologues." Carroll broke into jazz in the late 1940s, a time when women had a hard time gaining acceptance in that world. Still, she secured a gig at the Downbeat Club, opposite Dizzy Gillespie's big band, which launched her career.
