NYC: THE TED & LO SHOW: "THIS MAY HURT A BIT"

The award-winning Ted & Lo Show, starring Lorinda Lisitza and Ted Stafford, returns to DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Friday, May 2nd at 9:15 pm. "This May Hurt a Bit" is the title of both this second episode of The Ted & Lo Show and a Lisitza/Stafford original song featured in the set. As Lisitza sings "I'm gonna break you down," the duo begins a guided tour of evil and the human psyche. The songs search the minds of serial killers and doomed pop royalty for impulses and fears common to us all. "Hold on," sings Lisitza. When you get down to the heart of the matter, love is still stronger than hate. Truth and beauty reside in the shared experience of music. Ted & Lo deliver a one-two punch that will make you laugh and cry at the same time. This may hurt a bit. Lisitza & Ted Stafford met in 2011 and have been singing together ever since. Their tasty arrangements of well-known covers, obscure new music, and original compositions prove that one guitar, one harmonica, and two voices can sound as big as an arena rock band or as immediate as the listener's own conscience. There is a $10 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

She got involved in musical theater in high school but was enthralled by jazz. She moved to Boston in her late teens hanging out in Paul's Mall and the Jazz Workshop listening to the greats play live and sitting in as a singer with friends who were attending Berkley. Arriving back in New York City she attended 'Theatrium' (a Strasberg Institute training) and became involved in off-off broadway theater and appeared in a few independent films, later training with Eric Morris. Carmela moved to Los Angeles in '92 , working in the L. A. Theater scene and on several feature films with such notable film directors as Rob Reiner, Wolfgang Petersen, Jonathan Lynn and Ken Kwapis. NYC: UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH SAXOPHONIST DEE LUCAS

Saxophonist Dee Lucas will perform on Friday, May 2nd at 9:30 pm at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440). Once considered one of the country's best kept secrets, soprano saxophonist Dee Lucas has evolved and catapulted onto the music scene. After launching his well-received 2004 debut CD, "Remembrance", a tribute to legendary saxophonist George Howard, Lucas has been greeted both nationally and internationally with stunning reviews, garnered extensive airplay, and consistently climbed the charts. Lucas has developed and polished his distinctive style by collaborating energy to his smooth infectious melodic tunes, thus branding his timeless sound in the Contemporary Jazz market. With his brand new release of "Rebirth of the Smooth", saxophonist Dee Lucas visions this CD as a celebration on what he has accomplished in his short but steadily rising career, but it also indicates his direction in Contemporary Jazz. It offers a wide array of styles pushing the envelope in this already competitive genre of jazz. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: THE SARA MCDONALD ORCHESTRA AT STAGE 72

The Sara McDonald Orchestra, a brand new group, will be releasing its first EP - "A Very Tiny Big Band Album" - atSTAGE 72 (158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-362-2590) on Friday, May 2nd at 7:00 pm. The composer, vocalist, and leader, Miss McDonald spent the first few months of 2014 touring with the All Jazz Orchestra in Munich Germany, where they played the works off of said album. The ensemble has since expanded from its standard 18 piece size to include a string quartet as well as the use of electronics, providing a lush and vibrant sound. While certain pieces have a strong jazz influence, much of the writing itself borders on the neo-classical genre, with a fusion of pop and rock undertones. The Sara McDonald Orchestra is quite unlike any big band or large ensemble currently on the music scene in New York, and they only hope to broaden its genre defying horizons. Call for cover/minimum information.
