BOSTON: OMAR SOSA & THE NEW AFROCUBAN QUARTET
Omar Sosa and The New AfroCuban Quartet perform at SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB(400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Wednesday, April 30th at 8:00 pm in celebration of International Jazz Day. Omar Sosa is a composer, bandleader, and jazz pianist. Sosa began studying marimba at age eight, then switched to piano at the Escuela Nacional de Musica in Havana, where he studied jazz. Sosa moved to Quito, Ecuador, in 1993, then San Francisco, California, in 1995. In San Francisco he became deeply involved in the local Latin jazz scene and began a long collaboration with percussionist John Santos. He also made a series of recordings with producer Greg Landau, including the ground-breaking Oaktown Irawo, featuring Tower of Power drummer Dave Garibaldi, Cuban saxophonist Yosvany Terry and Cuban percussionist Jesus Diaz. BOSTON: CLAYTON BROTHERS QUINTET AT THE REGATTABAR
The Clayton Brothers Quintet, featuring: Jeff Clayton, alto sax, oboe, french horn, flute; John Clayton, bass; Terell Stafford, trumpet & flugelhorn; Gerald Clayton, piano; and Obed Calvaire, drums, performs at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Wednesday. April 30th at 7:30 pm. John and Jeff Clayton prove conclusively, that while blood may be thicker than water, it can also carry an unimpeded flow of pure creativity. The Clayton Brothers Quartet was originally founded in 1977, and while their paths would sometimes diverge, the brothers continued to share a common musical vision that would draw them back together. Their latest CD, Back In The Swing of Things (Hyena) demonstrates their unique musical vision and swing. John Clayton served as the Artistic Director of Jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic from 1998 through 2001. A seven time Grammy nominated artist, John gained prominence as a bassist in both the jazz and classical fields. Reed player, Jeff Clayton began his career as both a touring and studio musician. He recorded important albums with, among others, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Kenny Rodgers, Michael Jackson, Patti Labelle, Earth Wind & Fire, and solo on Madonna's Recording 'Black in Business'. There is a $28 cover.
TORONTO: UNITED BY TRAUMA FUNDRAISER AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

With the organization United by Trauma and MPP Frank Klees, they will be celebrating the eve of the announcement of Bill 15 - First Responders Day, with a benefit evening to raise funds for First Responders, Medical Personnel and Military affected by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The goal is to raise funds sufficient enough to purchase a Trauma Dog for a Toronto Police Officer suffering from PSTD. Ernie, a trauma dog in training will be attending with his grandfather and there will be complimentary hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, a fabulous silent auction, music by Glass Tiger and the Coppertones - the Toronto Police Services band, and a chance to win a Sunwing Vacation of your choice.
