NYC: PEGGY KING AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Vocalist Peggy King, one of the best-loved stars of TV's Golden Age, as well as stage, screen and nightclubs, continues her amazing resurgence after nearly a 30-year absence, with a series of performances at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), accompanied by musical director Andy Kahn on piano. Performances are scheduled for Tuesday, April 29th at 7:00 pm; and Tuesday, June 10th at 7:00 pm. Peggy was re-discovered last year in the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning HBO film "Behind the Candelabra," in which Michael Douglas and Matt Damon watch a lengthy 1955 video clip of Peggy singing "When Liberace Winks at Me," accompanied by the real Liberace on piano. It also became a popular YouTube video and is included on the Elektra soundtrack album. Peggy King has worked in films and television with nearly every star imaginable, from Frank Sinatra and Mel Torme (with whom she co-starred on a 50s TV series) to Sammy Davis, Jr. and Andre Previn, and her dozens of recordings through the years show just why she remains a favorite of America's finest composers and lyricists. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: JAZZ LEGEND ANNIE ROSS TUESDAYS THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: WAITING FOR SPRING: THE MUSIC AND LYRICS OF WILL BUCK
54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) has announced that up-and-coming songwriter Will Buck makes his 54 Below debut on Tuesday, April 29th at 7:00 pm with an evening of original songs new and old. The Chicago-born writer will present pieces from his various projects, from his college days writing for Northwestern University's illustrious Waa-Mu show to his upcoming show, Powerless. Spanning settings as far-ranging as ancient Greece, 1920's England, and contemporary North Carolina, Will's music absorbs a variety of styles and influences, from Brahms to Ben Folds, pushed through his own quirky melodic filter. The evening will feature collaborations with lyricists John Dietrich, Jason Purdy, Teresa Lotz, and others, as well as lyrics by the composer himself. Will is joined by Patricia Noonan (Death Takes A Holiday, Merrily We Roll Along at Encores!), John Riddle (Evita National Tour), Amanda Savan (Fancy Nancy, On the Record), Brandon Andrus, Jonathan Rayson and more stellar performers to be announced! Directed by Michael Holtzman. There is a $25 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
NYC: THE SKIVVIES RETURN TO 54 BELOW
The undie-rock, comedy-pop duo The Skivvies return to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Tuesday, April 29th at 9:30 pm. The Skivvies don't just strip down their musical arrangements, they literally strip down to their underwear to perform their distinctive mashups and eccentric originals for cello and ukulele, with touches of glockenspiel, melodica, and a surprising array of under-used instruments. Award-winning singer-actors Lauren Molina (Marry Me a Little, Sweeney Todd, Rock of Ages) and Nick Cearley (All Shook Up) became YouTube sensations as The Skivvies, with living room videos that displayed their powerful harmonies as well as their powerful abs. They also have a single and music video directed by Augusten Burroughs, bestselling author of Running With Scissors. They will be joined by special guest stars who will strip down and rock out. Expect a hilarious evening of genre-hopping pop perfection. There is a $30-40 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
