NYC: NEW YORK'S NEXT TOP DRAG QUEEN CONTEST
"New York's Next Top Drag Queen" will be presented at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Mondays at 7:00 pm, April 28th (4 finalists sing a new song, a repeat song and a theme song) and May 5th - finale (the 4 finialists sing a new song and make a heartfelt appeal for why they deserve to wear the crown; the finale features several special guests). The event is produced by the Metropolitan Room, Joseph Macchia. The contest's permanent judges include the MAC and Bistro award-winning cabaret producer Joseph Macchia ("Cabaret Cares" and "Broadway on 22nd Street" and "Boys Night Out"), the Broadway veteran and cabaret star T. Oliver Reid (winner 2011 MetroStar; 2012 MAC debut, and 2013 Bistro), and Frankie C. (columnist for Odyssey Magazine). The Mystery Judge will remain "closeted" until the very end. The Grand Prize includes: A Cash Prize of $500 and a One Night Videotaped, Club-Produced Show. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: LINDSAY MENDEZ & MARCO PAGUIA AT 54 BELOW
Coming off an acclaimed run as Elphaba in Broadway's Wicked, and the star of last's season's award-winning Dogfight, the charming and super-voiced, Lindsay Mendez will perform at 54 BELOW(254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) for one night only on Monday,May 28th at 7:00 pm. Joined by pianist Marco Paguia and the hottest band this side of Oz, expect jazzed-up versions of pop tunes from the likes of Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Feist, John Legend, Andrew Bird & more - including a few selections from their CD, "This Time." There is a $25-$35 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
NYC: NAMT SONGWRITER SPOTLIGHT AT 54 BELOW
The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) present a 'Songwriter Spotlight' at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Monday,April 28th at 9:30 pm. The show will highlight three songwriting teams who have been part of NAMT's Festival of New Musicals: Paul Gordon (Broadway-bound Emma and Analog and Vinyl, which will premiere this summer at the Weston Playhouse), Barbara Anselmi & Brian Hargrove (Broadway-bound It Shoulda Been You, which was recently seen at The Village Theatre and George Street Playhouse) and Ben Clark (The Circus in Winter, which will premiere at Goodspeed Musicals this fall). The writers will sing songs from their Festival shows and upcoming projects, perhaps sharing a behind-the-scenes story or two along the way. Performers will include Corey Mach, Patti Murin, Kate Rockwell, Andrew Samonsky, Sarah Stiles and more. There is a $25-$35 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
NYC: TAL YARDENI SINGS FLORENCE & THE MACHINE
Bringing her powerhouse voice and complete new arrangements to the eclectic music of the internationally renowned band "Florence and the Machine," Tal Yardeni performs at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Monday, April 28th at 11:30 pm as part of the club's Late Night series. This will be Tal's 54 Below debut. The evening promises to be a rocking good time. Yardeni is backed by LaDonna Burns, Shira Elias, and Jeremy Zoma, as she premieres her thrilling new show under the musical direction of Jeremy Robin Lyons and featuring such guests as Jenny Ashman, Darius Anthony Harper, Molly Hager, and Sheri Sanders. There is a $10 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
