Ilana Waldston will perform atTHE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Sunday, April 27th at 7:00 pm. Ilana is not just a singer but a consummate storyteller, bringing her extensive theatre training into the world of jazz. Her debut album, "I Could Laugh Out Loud", was released to wide acclaim. Whether she's breaking your heart with a beautiful ballad, moving you out of your seat with a swinging standard or tickling your funny bone with the unusual comedic songs for which she's best known; an evening with Ilana is a guaranteed good time. "April Fools ... in Love" is an exploration of the complicated, dark and often funny aspects of being in love from quirky songs like "If He Were Straight and I Were Young" to standards like "Night and Day". TORONTO: DON FRANCKS: SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE JAZZ CELLAR

THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) is excited to present legendary vocalist Don Francks as part of a new series taking place Sunday evenings at 8:00 pm in the Jazz Cellar, their beautiful 3rd floor lounge. He is joined by Steve Hunter on keys. When Don Francks opens his mouth to sing, he takes his audience on a journey. This celebrated singer and actor is widely regarded as one of the finest and most authentic jazz voices in Canada, having released several recordings including "Jackie Gleason Says: No One in This World is Like Don Francks" (with guitar legend Lenny Breau) , "Lost and Alone" (featuring orchestra arrangements by conductor Patrick Williams) and the original motion-picture soundtrack to Finian's Rainbow; among others. Francks has starred in many CBC television specials with jazz compatriots Jimmy Dale, Guido Basso, pianist Maury Kaye and the late, great Ron Collier. Then, in the sixties he moved to New York City where he performed on The Jackie Gleason Show, sang at The Blue Angel, and recorded a live album at the Village Vanguard. He also made several appearances on the Johnny Carson, Mike Douglas, Dick Cavett and Merv Griffin shows. Next stop: Hollywood, where he guest-starred in shows like The Wild Wild West, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mannix, and Mission: Impossible. "La Femme Nikita", "The Listener", "My Bloody Valentine" and "I'm Not There". His list of work as a voice-over artist for ads and cartoons is simply too vast to even begin mentioning! At 82 years young, Francks has just released "21st Century Francks," a live recording captured in 2002 at The Top O' the Senator. He will be performing songs from the CD, with many surprises in store along the way. There is a $5 cover.

WASHINGTON, DC: YELLOWJACKETS AT BLUES ALLEY

In 1977, Robben Ford assembled a group of veteran session musicians to record his album The Inside Story. The trio of musicians, which included keyboardist Russell Ferrante, bassist Jimmy Haslip and drummer Ricky Lawson, soon discovered a certain "chemistry" and musical affinity that led to their formation of Yellowjackets. WASHINGTON, DC: MATTHEW SHIPP TRIO'S TRIBUTE TO DUKE ELLINGTON

The Matthew Shipp Trio (Matt Shipp - piano, Michael Bisio - bass, Whit Dickey - drums) will perform in tribute to Duke Ellington at BOHEMIAN CAVERNS (2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800) on Sunday, April 27th at 7:00 pm. Mr Shipp has reached the holy grail of jazz in that he possesses a unique style on his instrument that is all of his own - and he's one of the few in jazz that can say so. Mr. Shipp has recorded a lot of albums with many labels but his 2 most enduring relationships have been with two labels. In the 1990s he recorded a number of chamber jazz CDs with Hatology, a group of CDs that charted a new course for jazz that, to this day, the jazz world has not realized. In the 2000s Mr Shipp has been curator and director of the label Thirsty Ear's "Blue Series" and has also recorded for them. In this collection of recordings he has generated a whole body of work that is visionary, far reaching and many faceted. There is a $15 cover.
