LOS ANGELES: TEKA PENTERICHE AT THE GARDENIA

Guitarist Teka Penteriche will appear at THE GARDENIA(7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Wednesday, April 30th at 9:00 pm. Born in Londrina, Brazil, but raised in Sao Paulo, Teka Penteriche "picked up" the guitar as a child, studied Music Education at Sao Paulo Estate University, moved to Boston, and attended the Berklee College of Music, where she met and studied with jazz vocalist Dominique Eade and began performing professionally on a regular basis. Nominated for the Boston Music Award for Outstanding Latin Act in 1993, she has performed and recorded with many artists, including Brazilian legends Hermeto Pascoal, Gilberto Gil, Flora Purim, and Airto Moreira. Today, her music has become a fusion of the sensual rhythms and harmonies of Brazil with the sophistication and improvisation of Jazz - the melding of which she calls "New Bossa," She debuts at The Gardenia at the recommendation of the Heckman/Frenz Music Consultancy & Management team. SAN FRANCISCO: TIZER AT YOSHI'S

TIZER, a multi-cultural band led by keyboardist/ composer Lao Tizer will perform atYOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Wednesday, April 30th at 8:00 pm. Driven by an explosive mix of jazz, rock, classical, jam band influences and Afro Cuban and world rhythms the band throws down a high powered collection of fresh instrumental music from one of the rising stars of the world-fusion genre. TIZER has spurred comparisons of a modern twist to the 70s and early 80s heyday of jazz fusion, when trailblazing ensembles like Return To Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report set the aesthetic standard. Lao assembled world-class musicians to create a dynamic rich with new melodic, harmonic and improvisational possibilities. Co-produced by Lao and guitarist Jeff Kollman, the eclectic set includes five original compositions by Lao and numerous collaborations with his cohorts, including the single 'World In Rhythm', co-written with Grammy- nominated guitarist Chieli Minucci. There is a $24 cover.
