TORONTO: PETER TOGNI TRIO: "FREE IN SPRING"
The Peter Togni Trio will present 'Free in Spring' at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Tuesday, April 28th at 8:00 pm. The original Peter Togni Trio was formed in 1997 and recorded the very popular CD, Shimmeree on the Atma label. The trio toured Canada many times and were often featured on radio in Canada and the United States. Like the original trio, the re-formed Togni Trio has a very lyrical quality and a rich harmonic blend, surrounding music with space. They put their unique spin on everything from jazz standards to classical, pop, country, and rock and roll styles, and also feature many of Peter-Anthony Togni's own compositions. On this "Free in Spring" evening the ensemble (Peter-Anthony Togni - piano, Malcolm Gould - drums, George Koller - bass, Mike Murley - tenor and soprano saxophone) will perform everything from April in Paris to songs by The Verve and Coldplay, free improvisations and a hint of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. There is a $20 cover.
WASHINGTON, DC: RONI BEN-HUR AT BLUES ALLEY
Guitarist Roni Ben-Hur will appear atBLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Monday, April 28th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. A pioneer for what has become an important wave of top jazz talent coming out of Israel, Ben-Hur migrated to New York in 1985, at the age of 22, and was quickly embraced by Manhattan's jazz elite. Learning jazz the old fashioned way by 'doing the hang' at notable venues such as Barry Harris's Jazz Cultural Theater, he met a veritable who's who in the jazz community. Along with being a prodigious player, composer, arranger, and bandleader, Ben-Hur has truly dedicated himself to educating others about the joys and rewards of playing jazz. Since being the jazz program founder/director at The Lucy Moses School at Kaufman Center in Manhattan. Call for cover/minimum information.
