The Billy Hart Quartet (Billy Hart, drums with Ethan Iverson on piano, Mark Turner on sax & Ben Street on bass) will perform at BIRDLAND(315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Tuesday through Saturday, March 4th through 8th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. At Birdland Hart celebrates the release of the first ECM recording of the quartet formed in 2003. Since the group's 2005 CD for hard-bop label High Note landed on many critics' best-of-the year lists, the ensemble's music has gotten more free and spacious. All of the members contribute material including a modern blues, a Coltrane tribute and an Iverson-penned homage to Paul Bley, the wonderfully-titled "Nostalgia for the Impossible.". There is a $40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

Half Note again recorded the trio in action at the club last year, releasing the album This is Jazz near the end of 2011.
