OAKLAND, CA: BIRD'S NEST JAZZ PRESENTS JAZZ LEGEND BOB DOROUGH
BIRD'S NEST JAZZ at WATERPARK LOFTS (2875 Glascock Street #109, Oakland, CA - 510-534-6163) presents Jazz Legend Bob Dorough on Thursday, July 24th at 7:00 pm. Bob Dorough is an American bebop and cool jazz pianist, composer and vocalese singer. He worked with Miles Davis and Blossom Dearie, and his adventurous style was an influence on Mose Allison, among other singers. He is perhaps best known as a voice and primary composer of many of the songs used in Schoolhouse Rock!, a series of educational animated shorts appearing on Saturday morning television in the 1970s and 1980s on ABC affiliates in the United States. Food by Jon Zax and dessert by Kathy Cronin, drinks provided by BNJ. Our celebrity door-person, Shanna Carlson will be on hand to check you in. Seating is limited, please get your tickets early. The evening will feature dinner, cocktails and an auction to support the work of the FSH Society, an award-winning charity raising critical funds for scientific research on facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), a degenerative muscle disease affecting over 500,000 people worldwide. FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) will present Forbidden Broadway: Alive and Kicking!, the wickedly funny parody of Broadway's biggest shows and brightest stars, for a limited three-week engagement, Thursdays through Sundays, July 10th through 27th. Showtimes are Thursdays & Fridays at 8:00 pm and Saturdays & Sundays qt 7:00 pm. Written and created by Gerald Alessandrini, Forbidden Broadway: Alive and Kicking! is filled with satirical vignettes of recent Broadway hits, including The Book of Mormon, Once, Newsies, and Les Miserables to name a few, as well as send-ups of Catherine Zeta Jones, Matthew Broderick, Patti LuPone, and Mandy Patinkin, among others. There is a $45-$60 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
