BOSTON: HAPA AT THE REGATTABAR

HAPA, often encapsulated as the "Sound of Maui" or the "Soundtrack of Hawaii" will perform at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Wednesday, July 23rd at 7:30 pm. The music and sound of the group HAPA, made up of Barry Flanagan - guitar & vocals, Ron Kuala'au - guitar & vocals and Tarvin Makia - bass & vocals, evokes a place that many people have referred to as heavenly. The sound? Expect to hear hypnotic, liquid guitar runs woven around clear, tenor Hawaiian vocals and immaculate harmonies driven by poetic lyrics exulting the rapture of the Hawaiian landscape, History and Mythology. The overriding quality of their music is one of passion, beauty and serenity, found in the majestic tones of the oli (chant), mele (song) and the exhilarating innovative sounds of virtuoso Guitar performances. There is a $25 cover.

TORONTO, ON: JAMES HILL QUARTET AT THE JAZZ BISTRO

James Hill, a young, energetic, award-winning Toronto-based pianist, composer, and educator, will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Wednesday, July 23rd at 8:00 pm. He is joined by Jeff LaRochelle - Tenor Saxophone, Roberto Occhipinti - Bass and Ian Wright - Drums. James discovered his passion for music during his third year of high school, and began playing guitar and piano shortly after in 2007. Since moving to Toronto in 2009 James has performed at jazz venues all across Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal including: the Rex, the Tranzac, the Drake Hotel, Chalkers, Trane Studios, Annette Studios, Gate 403, Paintbox Bistro, 80 Gladstone, The Jazz Bistro, Confederation Park (Ottawa Jazz Festival), Upstairs, the Jazz Room (Waterloo) and with great musicians including Jack Dejohnette, Darmon Meader, Mike Stern, New York Voices, Kelly Jefferson, Shirantha Beddage, Pat Labarbera, Eli Bennett, Jon Challoner, Soren Nissen, Ian Wright, Jeff Larochelle, Bryan Qu, Sam Dickinson, Anthony Fung, Matthew Chalmer, Matt Woroshyl and many others. There is a $12 cover.
