NYC: BARRET IS BACK ON RESTAURANT ROW
Chris Barrett returns to LA RIVISTA RISTORANTE (313 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-366-4603) on Monday, May 19th, where he will be at the piano Mondays through Wednesdays. There are two shows nightly, a dinner show at 8:00 and a supper show at 10:00 pm. Chris Barrett's performances are in the tradition of the great late-night boites of a fondly remembered era, when the likes of Hugh Shannon, Bobby Short, and Buddy Barnes manned the keyboard. NYC: JAZZ LEGEND ANNIE ROSS TUESDAYS THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: GABRIELLE STRAVELLI AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Jazz-pop vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli brings her new show to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Thursday, July 17th; Tuesday, July 22nd; Tuesday, July 29th; and Thursday, July 31st, at 7:00 pm. Director is Marilyn Maye. She will be joined by a dynamic trio: Joshua Richman on piano, Pat O'Leary on bass and Eric Halvorson on drums. The show will feature an eclectic array of tunes ranging from fresh takes on jazz standards and pop classics to original tunes. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: NEVER SAY NEVER - VALERIE DUKE
Valerie Duke brings her show 'Never Say Never' to THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Tuesday, July 22nd at 7:00 pm. The show is an hour of fun lovin' country and heart meltin' ballads sung by Valerie Duke featuring Filup Groft. Valerie is a female vocalist and songwriter. She loves singing many different genres and is regularly featured singing Big Band/Jazz with Big Bands and combos around town. In February of 2013 Valerie was asked to sing alongside two well known ladies of jazz Greta Matassa and Hedreich Nichols at the 7th annual All Angels Jazz Festival in Kauai. In February of 2014 she was the featured vocalist for Big Band Fever with The Chattanooga Symphony and Opera. Ms. Duke now lives in New York City and spends her time traveling the U.S. as a vocalist. There is a $5 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
NYC: PATTI LUPONE: THE LADY WITH A TORCH
Two-time Tony Award winner and 54 Below favorite Patti LuPone returns to54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) with her critically-acclaimed show The Lady with A Torch on Monday, July 21st through Saturday, August 2nd (no show on Sunday, the 27th of July). Patti performs an eclectic collection of torch songs by such composers and lyricists as Arthur Schwartz, Howard Dietz, Jule Styne, Sammy Cahn, Billy Barnes, Harold Arlen, George and Ira Gershwin, and Cole Porter. There is a $90-$105 cover plus a $30 food/drink minimum.
NYC: A TAYLOR SWIFT LOVE STORY AT 54 BELOW
"A Taylor Swift Love Story" will be presented at 54 BELOW(254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Tuesday, July 22nd at 9:30 pm. Using selections from all four of Swift's studio albums alongside intermittent spoken-word poetry and narration, the concert will construct a singular, chronological story and follow a journey of young love from beginning to end. Featuring a cast of Broadway performers, the narrative throughline will be told via specific perspectives by some of the theatre community's most adept young storytellers. Conceived and directed by Kimberly Belflower (Lost Girl, An Emily Dickinson Christmas, Chronic Fatigue; MFA playwriting candidate at UT Austin '17). Featuring performances from: Blake Daniel, Preston Sadleir, Andrew Duran, Jenn Damiano, Barrett Wilbert Weed, Lilli Cooper and more. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.
NYC: DINE & DANCE WITH VINCE GIORDANO AND THE NIGHTHAWKS - NOW AT THE IGUANA
Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks are back - and now will play every Monday & Tuesday night from 8:00 to 11:00 pm at at IGUANA'S VIP LOUNGE (240 West 54th Street, NYC - 212-765-5454). Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks is an eleven-piece band playing music of the 1920s & 30s for your dining and dancing pleasure. In 1976 Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks (originally known as the New Orleans Nighthawks) was formed. A big-band historian and collector, Giordano has more than 60,000 scores in his collection. There is a $15 cover (at the door) plus a $15 food drink minimum.
