A FEW WORDS ABOUT TODAY'S NYC TOP CABARET PICK
(excerpted from Friday's MEMBERS ONLY CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE NEWSLETTER)
I have another winning cabaret show to recommend! It's the show I saw on Monday night (November 11th) - Bob O'Hare's 'Recovery: A Show About Getting Better' at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmamanyc.com/ ). It tells the story of a serious fall Bob had in late 1990 - and he is still 'recovering' today. If you want to see a show that is both entertaining and inspiring, you can't miss with this one. Bob is a witty story teller, a wonderful singer, and has put together a show with his director Eric Michael Gillette that you will remember for years! I love a show where familiar songs are given a new meaning, and where unfamiliar songs are generously included. A true evening of classic cabaret with a clean modern style. I loved it - you will love it - I guarantee! Just two shows left: Sunday, November 17th at 6:30 pm; and Friday, November 22nd at 6:30 pm.
In a little aside: I had never met Bob before, but got to know him so well in the show I almost felt like he was an old friend when I stopped to shake hands after the show. And, unlike so many other performers in this situation, he didn't ask me how I liked the show (not a fair question, since I need to "digest" what I've seen for a few hours). Instead, he asked how my knee was, and how Daniel was! He's got talent - and class!
