CABARET TONIGHT IN BOSTON & TORONTO - SCULLERS - REGATTABAR - JAZZ BISTRO

CABARET TONIGHT IN BOSTON & TORONTO - SCULLERS - REGATTABAR - JAZZ BISTRO

BOSTON: MATT DUSK & SARA GAZAREK AT THE REGATTABAR

Jazz vocalists Matt Dusk & Sara Gazarek will perform at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Tuesday, November 19th at 7:30 pm. Like countless listeners and lovers around the world, Matt Dusk gets lost in the music of Chet Baker, calling it "the perfect soundtrack for an intimate evening together." Dusk's love affair with Baker's music that has lasted years. Dusk - whose romantic fifth studio album My Funny Valentine: The Chet Baker Songbook pays homage to the tragic balladeer and trumpet player - first fell hard for Baker's hauntingly unaffected vocals and lyrical horn work in the wee small hours of his teen years. Amongst a community teaming with startlingly gifted young singers, Sara Gazarek stands out as a particularly extravagant artist. Her first two albums introduced her singular sound and vision, steeped in the tradition of jazz but deeply informed by contemporary songwriters and performers. She won the prestigious Downbeat Student Music Award for Outstanding Collegiate Jazz Vocalist, a distinction that directly led to a spot on the Concord Jazz Festival Tour (with Oleta Adams, Karrin Allyson and Diane Schuur). But now, with three highly acclaimed CD's under her belt at the young age of 30, Sara is steeped in the jazz tradition, but is not afraid to embrace the music that moves her generation. There is a $25 cover.

The album, which features several great musicians, including fellow Berklee faculty member, guitarist and co-writer, Scott Tarulli, also showcases different timbres of Christine's vocal and instrumental skills. As one would expect, many of the songs on the album have a jazz influence but with an edge that goes along with her personal storytelling. That being said, this is not a jazz album, but one with catchy melodies and harmonies supported by serious groove. Dinner/Show: $60 Show only: $20.
