CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: JANE MONHEIT AT THE BLUE NOTE
Jane Monheit will perform at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Tuesday through Sunday, November 19th through 24th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. She is joined by Michael Kanan, piano; Neal Miner, bass; and Rick Montalbano, drums. An extraordinarily gifted jazz vocalist whose sincere and romantic interpretations of exceptional songs have made her a favorite in both the jazz and cabaret worlds, Jane Monheit has garnered numerous accolades in the past decade. Her debut album, Never Never Land (2000), remained on the Billboard Jazz chart for over a year and was voted Best Debut Recording by the members of the Jazz Journalists Association. Her second release, Come Dream with Me (2001), came just a year later and landed atop the Billboard Jazz charts, while In the Sun, her 2002 release, earned a Grammy nomination for Vince Mendoza in the Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocals category. Monheit's releases in the middle of the last decade included Live at the Rainbow Room (2003), Taking a Chance on Love (2004), and The Season (2005). Her 2007 CD, Surrender, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Jazz chart. "The pristine clarity of her voice is a remarkable asset," exclaimed The New York Times in its commentary on Surrender and Monheit's 2009 effort The Lovers, The Dreamers and Me. In 2010, Monheit celebrated the tenth anniversary of her remarkable recording career with her most mature, heartfelt album yet: Home, a collection of standards that represents a passionate return to her roots as a jazz musician. There is a $20-$35 cover.
