NYC: LEW TABACKIN QUARTET - A CELEBRATION OF COLEMAN HAWKINS

Lew Tabackin Quartet will present 'A Celebration of Coleman Hawkins' at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday through Wednesday, November 17th through 19th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Tenor saxophone master Coleman Hawkins (aka "Bean") is one of the most important figures in the stylistic and popular development of jazz. Throughout his influential career - in which he brought the tenor saxophone into its now prominent role in jazz - Hawkins worked with the biggest names in jazz, from Fletcher Henderson's Orchestra and Duke Ellington, to a New York combo he led featuring Thelonious Monk, Oscar Pettiford, Miles Davis, and Max Roach as sidemen. Award-winning saxophonist, flutist, and bandleader Lew Tabackin is known in part for a huge sound and melodic approach to harmony that has drawn comparisons to Hawkins. Ten years ago, Tabackin led The Kennedy Center's much-praised celebration of Hawkins' centennial, and now, a decade later, he comes to Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola to celebrate Bean once again with his superb quartet comprised of Lew Tabackin, tenor saxophone; Peter Washington, bass; Kenny Washington, drums; Richard Wyands, piano. There is a $35 cover.
