BOSTON: THE BILL CHARLAP TRIO AT SCULLERS

The Bill Charlap Trio will perform at SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111) on Friday, November 21st with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Since their first recording together 13 years ago, pianist Bill Charlap, bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington have become one of the top trios in jazz. In 2000, Charlap was signed to Blue Note Records and has since received two Grammy Award nominations, for Somewhere: The Songs of Leonard Bernstein and most recently The Bill Charlap Trio: Live at the Village Vanguard. In addition to leading his own trio, Bill Charlap has performed and recorded with many leading artists of our time, ranging from jazz masters Phil Woods and Wynton Marsalis to singers Tony Bennett and Barbra Streisand. BOSTON: MEDICI MUSICA PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS: WOMEN OF THE WORLD

Medici Musica Productions Presents: Women of the World at THE REGATTABAR at the Charles Hotel (1 Bennett Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-395-7757) on Friday, November 21st at 7:30 pm. Women of the World was formed to bring women musicians from across the globe onto a common platform to collaborate and create, not only through the sharing of music, but also to explore and celebrate the differences in ideologies, and cultural tenets that exist in the daily lives of women all over the world. Honoring global folk traditions, their repertoire spans music in 26 languages. 2014 American a cappella champions, nominees for the 2013 Boston Music Awards and 2014 Independent Music Awards, Women of the World has toured North America and Japan, having collaborated with many industry legends including Grammy-award winning vocalist, Bobby McFerrin and African vocal icon, Angelique Kidjo. There is a $20 cover. 

TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: PATRICK HEWAN

Patrick Hewan will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Friday, November 21st at 6:00 pm as part of the club's Young Artist series. Patrick Hewan is a rising star in the Toronto Jazz scene who's energetic virtuosic playing captivates and moves his audiences. He draws on the vast vocabulary of the legendary jazz pianists who came before him and adds his own spirit and passion to create a unique sound and style. Drawing heavily on influences such as: Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Hiromi Uehara, Oscar Peterson, and Phineas Newborn while studying under the tutelage of legendary pianists such as Mark Eisenman, Brian Dickesnon, Richard Whiteman, Robi Botos, and Hilario Duran it's no secret where Patrick developed his unique, high-octane style that still clearly adheres to the art forms tradition. Patrick began studying classical piano at the age of four and was later introduced to the saxophone where he developed a great love for jazz music. His education includes York University and Humber College and he is a recipient of the Berklee World Tour Scholarship for both sax and piano. There is no cover.

TORONTO: MELISSA STYLIANOU "NO REGRETS" CD RELEASE

Jazz singer Melissa Stylianou will celebrate the release of her new CD "No Regrets" at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, November 20th through 22nd at 9:00 pm. Melissa has been turning heads and capturing hearts since the turn of this century, from her native Toronto to her adopted home of New York City, from intimate club residencies to top festival stages. Stylianou's newest album - No Regrets, her fifth disc and second for the New York-based Anzic Records - is about the joy of spontaneity. She recorded a set of jazz standards and other favorites in a live-to-two-track, noon-to-night studio session backed by a trio of New York all-stars: pianist Bruce Barth, double-bassist Linda Oh and drummer Matt Wilson, with guest spots by clarinetist Anat Cohen and alto saxophonist Billy Drewes. As ever, Stylianou's singing is a delight, reinforcing the description by Grammy-nominated pianist Fred Hersch. There is a $15-$20 cover.
