NYC: SINGER/SONGWRITER SPENCER DAY AT BIRDLAND

The Broadway at Birdland concert series will present the return of singer/songwriter Spencer Day to theBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Monday, May 26th at 7:00 pm. Spencer Day will be performing original soon-to-be hits from his new CD, "Daybreak." He will also perform some familiar songs from the 60's and 70's like Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots are Made for Walking," Buddy Holly's "Oh Boy," and "A World Without Love" by Peterand Gordon. Day is a contemporary singer and songwriter, originating from humble beginnings in a small town in Utah. Spencer's early albums were followed more recently by the acclaimed Vagabond in 2009 and The Mystery of You in 2013. A strong jazz musician, his music has evolved with a variety of influences from folk rock's The Association, rockabilly, big bands and Nancy Sinatra. He likes the versatility and flexibility ofhis music and plans on performing a show that will infuse elements of cabaret, storytelling, and comedy with his piano and vocals. There is a $25 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: CATERINA ZAPPONI AND SOME TALENTED FRIENDS AT THE BLUE NOTE

Caterina Zapponi will be joined by Houston Person (Saxophone), Bucky Pizzarelli (Guitar) and Monty Alexander (Piano) at THE BLUE NOTE(131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, May 26th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. The New York City-based, Italian-French singer Caterina Zapponi, is celebrating the release of her new Motema Music album, Romantica. Produced by Monty Alexander - Zapponi's partner in life as well as in music - the project is the fullest realization to date of Zapponi's unique sensibility, at once measured and emotional, economical and cinematic, international and especially fluent in the nuanced interplay of American jazz. Zapponi was born and raised in Rome, the daughter of celebrated screenwriter Bernardino Zapponi, a collaborator and longtime friend of Federico Fellini, and Francoise Rambert, a French-born chanteuse who instilled in Caterina her love of the French repertoire. Growing up amidst her parents' collaborators and friends helped introduce Zapponi to jazz and the American Songbook while fueling her desire to move to the United States, which she did upon receiving a scholarship from Berklee College of Music. She graduated in two years and won the Berklee Cleo Laine Award for vocal achievement and performance. She went on to be a finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Vocal Jazz Competition. There is a $15-$25 cover.

NYC: THE RYAN KISOR QUINTET AT DIZZY'S

The Ryan Kisor Quintet (Ryan Kisor, trumpet; Peter Zak, piano; Willie Jones III, drums; John Webber, bass; Peter Bernstein, guitar) will perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday & Tuesday, May 26th & 27th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Longtime Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra trumpeter Ryan Kisor returns to Dizzy's Club, leading his small group that has performed and recorded together to great acclaim for over 15 years. The quintet has several CD releases as a unit and has toured the United States and Japan extensively. This is a rare chance to hear the quintet together in New York City, where it all began.
