PALM SPRINGS: SARAH COLONNA AT THE COPA

Sarah Colonna, one of Daily Variety's "Top 10 Comics to Watch" 2012 will perform at THE COPA (244 East Amado Road, Palm Springs CA - 760-866-0021 - ) on Friday & Saturday, May 30th at 8:00 pm. She tours across the country headlining comedy clubs and has been seen on the Comedians of Chelsea Lately tour, The Las Vegas Comedy Festival and has made multiple appearances at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. Some of her TV guest appearances include, "The United States of Tara," "Scare Tactics" and "Monk." She was a semi-finalist on "Last Comic Standing" and the BBC's "The World Stands Up," an international show featuring the best comedians from around the world. Sarah is well known as a writer and roundtable regular on "Chelsea Lately" and a producer, writer and star on E!'s "After Lately." Call for cover/minimum information.

LOS ANGELES: TOM CULVER WITH "COLE PORTER UNCORKED"

Tom Culver brings his show "Cole Porter Uncorked" to THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Friday & Saturday, May 30th & 31st at 9:00 pm. As a boy, Tom Culver was mesmerized by the flicking images on the silver screen as he sat transfixed in the darkness of the small-town South Dakota movie palaces. The Navy offered a ticket from the snow swept plains. After service, Tom located in Oakland, California and discovered the Bay Area's theater and music scenes. Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Donald O'Connor and Dan Daily glided across lacquered dance floors with their glamorous partners and the die was cast. He found a community of like-minded vocalists at piano bars and clubs in Los Angeles, and thanks to the success of artists like Harry Connick Jr. and Diana Krall, traditional pop music was once again being heard. Tom's audiences understood the nuances of this music as he performed at intimate venues including Hollywood's Gardenia. The show is directed by Marilyn Maye. Call for cover/minimum information.

LOS ANGELES: MIKI HOWARD AT CATALINA JAZZ CLUB

Miki Howard will perform at CATALINA JAZZ CLUB (6725 West Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, CA - 323-466-2210 - ) on Friday & Saturday, May 30th & 31st at 8:00 pm. Alicia Michelle "Miki" Howard is an American R&B/jazz singer and actress who had a string of Top 10 hit songs in the late-1980s and early-1990s, including "Baby, Be Mine", "Come Share My Love" and "Love Under New Management". "Ain't Nobody Like You" and "Ain't Nuthin' in the World" both peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard Top R&B Singles chart. Call for cover/minimum information.

SAN FRANCISCO: MICHAEL FEINSTEIN AT FEINSTEINS TO CELEBRATE 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

To celebrate its one-year anniversary,FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) will present return of multi-platinum-selling entertainer Michael Feinstein for four performances only, Thursday & Friday, June 29th & 30th at 8:00 pm and Saturday & Sunday, May 30th & June 1st at 7:00 pm. He will be joined by special guest Paula West, who recently completed a sold-out residency at Feinstein's at the Nikko. Feinstein will perform a range of classics from the Great American songbook. Michael Feinstein is considered one of the premier interpreters of American standards. His 200-plus shows a year have included performances at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House and the Hollywood Bowl as well as the White House and Buckingham Palace. Paula West was initially exposed to classical music as a youngster. It wasn't until college that West began listening to jazz singers such as Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughn. After college, West moved to San Francisco where she met a pianist who would join her in the climb to her own musical identity and her musical success. His name was Ken Muir, and he continues as her accompanist today. There is a $65-$95 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.

SAN FRANCISCO: YOSHI'S PRESENTS GOAPELE

Sophisticated Bay Area soulstress Goapele will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Wednesday through Saturday, May 28th through 31st with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Singer-songwriter Goapele broke out of Bay Area at the beginning of the last decade determined to make a difference in the world of music. Seamlessly blending genres while refusing to be limited by the "neo-soul" tag, the eloquent singer/songwriter completed her first release Closer in 2001 and never looked back. Embraced from the beginning by critics and fans alike, Goapele craved the perfect niche for herself as she created music that fused jazz, soul and hip-hop with her own beautiful poetry. Not content to be merely another singer lost in the machine, Goapele's follow-up recordings Even Closer (2002) and Change It All (2005) were released through majors in conjunction with her own independent label Skyblaze, After taking off six years from recor, Goapele has returned to the forefront of the music scene with Break of Dawn, a collection of sophistiling with love, loss and all the life in between.
