NYC: SARA ZAHN: "THE CAHN FILM FESTIVAL"

Sara Zahn brings her show "THE CAHN FILM FESTIVAL" to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, May 25th at 7:00 pm, featuring the shows of Sammy Cahn written for the movies. Musical director is Christopher Denny and the show is directed by Barry Kleinbort. Sammy Cahn, the legendary songwriter, grew up as a poor kid in Brooklyn and ended up in Hollywood writing songs for for iconic movie stars: Frank Sinatra, Doris Day and Julie Andrews, to name a few. For his contributions, Sammy was nominated twenty six times for an Academy Award for Best Original Song, more than ANY other songwriter... EVER. He won four times, placing him with the top winners of all time alongside Alan Menken, Johnny Mercer, and Jimmy Van Heusen (one of Sammy's longtime collaborators) As a veteran professional since age 4, Sara Zahn has been working in show business for over 50 years. During the last 25 years she has garnered critical acclaim as an international performer, award-winning songwriter and familiar singing voice on TV shows, animated films, jingles and voiceovers. Her many cabaret shows, including tributes to Leonard Bernstein, Charles Strouse, Carolyn Leigh and Sammy Cahn, have garnered her a Backstage Bistro Award, for Outstanding Female Vocalist and The Hanson Award from MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs), as well as participation in The Berkshire and American Music Theatre Festivals. Performances at Rainbow and Stars, The Russian Tea Room, Tavern on the Green, and a three month engagement headlining at famed jazz club Michael's Pub plus numerous performances in the Lyrics and Lyricists series at the 92nd St Y, have made her a triple threat in the worlds of cabaret, theatre and jazz. NYC: KAY MATSUKAWA - BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM

Kay Matsukawa will celebrate her birthday on Sunday, May 25th at 9:30 pm at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440). Kay, who began her professional music career at the age 18, honed her vocal skills by sharing live performances and recording sessions with some of Japan's most accomplished artists, including Yuming (Yumi Matsutoya), the best-selling female singer/songwriter in Japan. In 1999, Kay teamed with a guitarist Neo to form FAKiE, a guitar/vocal duo, earning critical praise for their breathtaking performance and high quality sound. In August 2006 they performed at "Imperial Jazz Complex" at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. They rode the momentum of that performance into a nationwide tour, playing at major concert halls. In 2007, Kay was awarded a prestigious Artists' Grant from the Japanese Government, enabling her to moved to New York City to further develop her talent. Kay quickly began making a name for herself following a successful New York debut at the Kitano New York in November 2009. In October 2010, Kay, reunited with Neo, appeared at Zinc Bar as a duo (now called K & Neo) for a sold-out show. They followed that show with another sold-out performance, again at Zinc Bar, in February 2011. She is currently in the process of filming "The Center of the Universe," (scheduled for release in 2014). There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Jackie Beat, everyone's favorite big and bawdy, bold and ballsy, in-your-face funny "lady" returns to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Saturday & Sunday, May 24th & 25th with shows at 7:30 & 10:00 pm with her latest solo comedy. The terrifyingly talented drag star is hard at work on new material, aiming a barrage of f-bombs squarely at iconic pop tunes and other musical crimes against humanity. It will be a blast! Jackie Beat has been wowing unsuspecting audiences since 1989. NYC: ON KENTUCKY AVENUE, THE CLUB HARLEM CABARET MUSICAL

ON KENTUCKY AVENUE - The Club Harlem Revue, will be performed on Sunday, May 25th at 3:00 pm at STAGE 72(158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-362-2590). The musical takes place in a time, before the Casinos took over Atlantic City, when nightclubbing was in vogue with leggy show girls, hysterical comedians, and great singers & dancers. The most famous of the clubs on the musical street known as Kentucky Avenue was the Club Harlem. It was thought of as a "black Copacabana" and featured the major black talent of the era with flair, fashion and fantastic stage shows from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This musical revue is set during the Club Harlem dress rehearsal for opening night of the 1969 season. Within our fictional show, there is a love triangle between the MC, the lead show girl, and the featured female singer. The show features an original score true to the era, interspersed with classic songs from the 60s. The show stars Ty Stephens, Cheryl Freeman, Andricka Hall and features Lee Summers as comedian Slappy Black with special guest artist, Jeree Wade as singer, Damita Jo. Also appearing are Dancers (in alphabetical order) Donna Clark, Gregory J. Hanks, Mindy Haywood, Cassandra Palacio Renee Ternier, and two additional Male Dancers. The Musicians are Frank Owens, Wilbur Bascomb, Richard Cummings, Jr. and Damon Duewhite. The show concept was written & developed by Adam Wade and Ty Stephens. Original music is by Ty Stephens, Frank Owens, Branice McKenzie, Wilbur Bascomb, Adam Wade and Jeree Wade. The Musical Direction is by Frank Owens. The Choreography is by Ty Stephens with Swing Dance Choreography by Mickey Davidson. Showgirl Consultant is Betty Jo and Creative Consultant is Russ Weatherford. Costumes created by Ty Stephens and Pearl Williams. ON KENTUCKY AVENUE captures the feel and aura of the club, based on experiences of Adam and Jeree Wade who performed there during different eras - 30 years apart and were witnesses to much of the backstage intrigues that took place nightly. This new musical, which has been in development for the past 2 1/2 years is presented by Robert R. Blume, Songbirds Unlimited Productions, Peter Martin/Rick Newman in association with J.R. Knauf, Marshall N. Warner & Step Forward Entertainment. Jazz producing legend, Cobi Narita is Associate Producer. There is a $35-$45-$55 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: SONDHEIM UNPLUGGED RETURNS TO 54 BELOW

A celebrated New York event since 2010, the Bistro Award-winning series Sondheim Unplugged returns once more to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Sunday, May 25th at 7:00 pm. The show features some of Broadway and cabaret's most dynamic voices, accompanied by piano only. Expect tunes from A Little Night Music, Company, Into the Woods, Follies, Passion, Dick Tracy and more. NYC: ASPECTS OF ANDREW: LLOYD WEBBER AT 54 BELOW

On Sunday, May 25th at 9:30 pm, 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) will salute the artistry of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, the celebrated composer who has left an indelible mark on Broadway, the West End & popular music. Cats. The Phantom of the Opera. Evita. Jesus Christ Superstar. Starlight Express. Sunset Boulevard. Aspects of Love. Song & Dance .... the list goes on. Aspects of Andrew runs the gamut from the humor of Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat & By Jeeves, to the high flying (adored) diva tunes that populate some of the most beloved musicals of the past half century. NYC: JIM CARUSO & BILLY STRITCH RETURN TO BEMELMANS BAR

Jim Caruso & Billy Stritch return toBEMELMAN'S BAR at the CARLYLE(35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-570-7189) with their evening of swinging standards running every Sunday in April and May, from 9:00 pm to midnight. The two performers, who have performed extensively on their own, gained national exposure together as the host and musical director of the wildly popular open mic, Cast Party, which celebrates talent every Monday at Birdland in NYC, and tours nationally. During their 2013 debut runs at Bemelmans, the duo received critical acclaim, and made news when showbiz heavy-hitters like Liza Minnelli and Michael Feinstein joined them in impromptu performances. In their upcoming Carlyle run, Caruso and Stritch will be joined by bassist Steve Doyle. There is a $15-$25 cover.

NYC: SIMON GREEN: SO, THIS THEN IS LIFE

59E59 Theaters presents the US premiere of SIMON GREEN: SO, THIS THEN IS LIFE, created by Simon Green and David Shrubsole, performed by Mr. Green, with musical arrangement and accompaniment by Mr. Shrubsole. The show explores paths un-trod, mistakes repeated, and ridiculous responses to an ever-changing world. Simon Green and David Shrubsole cast their gaze over life's rude awakenings. Reteaming after their Drama Desk-nominated Traveling Light, Green and Shrubsole concoct a theatrical marriage of words and music that transports audiences to a former, more innocent incarnation of themselves. Simon Green: So, This Then Is Life begins performances at 59E59 THEATERS (59 East 59th Street, NYC - 212-279-4200) on Tuesday, May 20th for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 1st. Simon's cabarets, with musical director and arranger, David Shrubsole, are familiar in London's major cabaret venues and have played New York at Feinstein's, The Metropolitan Room, Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall and the 59E59 TheatersPress opening is Thursday, May 22 at 7:15 pm.
