NYC: BROADWAY SINGS AT THE WEST END - THURSDAYS

A New Open mic night has begun hosted by Sarah Rice & Craig Pomranz on the Upper West Side! BROADWAY SINGS AT THE WEST END will be held every Thursday night (it started on May 1st) at THE WEST END (955 West End Avenue, NYC - 212-531-4759) from 9:00 to 11:00 pm (signup after 8:30 pm). Matthew Martin Ward will be at the piano. An open mic with multi-award winning hosts Sarah and Craig bring the ultimate New York experience to the Upper West Side with all kinds of talent singing all genres of music -Broadway, Pop, Jazz, Classical, all are welcomed. There will be a drawing at the end of the evening to get to sing another song and get a free cover for the following week. There will also be a group sing of the Tonight Quintette from West Side Story. There is a $7 cover - no minimum.

NYC: THE MUSIC OF MAGLIONE AND RUIZ: #thestruggle

After a sold out debut concert, contemporary theatre composers/songwriters Dave Maglione and Tomas Ruiz present a night of uplifting music for all those who are going through it at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Thursday, May 29th at 7:00 pm. For those who have never 'gone through it', a) you probably have and b) you will by the end of the night. The Music of Maglione and Ruiz: #thestruggle is your last chance to catch this duo before they go through it on their first commissioned songwriting project this summer. NYC: JON WEBER: JOPLIN TO JARRETT

Fresh from performing this show in London, Jon Weber brings 'Joplin to Jarrett' toTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Thursday, May 28th at 7:00 pm. Joplin to Jarrett serves as a concise history of jazz piano with an emphasis on the earlier composers from the first half of the 20th Century. Over 100 years of music interspersed with musical excerpts with John Weber's insights and anecdotes reveal a lifetime's worth of impassioned research. Weber's extraordinary facility for recall and analysis allow him to form fascinating and unexpected connections between artists of different eras, their development and influences in jazz piano. Jazz pianist Jon Weber has recorded and toured all over the world, winning numerous honors for performance and composition - scoring extensively for television since 1987. Jon lives in New York City and hosts NPR's Piano Jazz with Jon Weber after frequently serving as guest host for Marian McPartland. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Carole J. Katie Finneran, the two-time Tony Award-winning Broadway and TV star, will make her cabaret debut at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) with the show It Might Be You - A Funny Lady's Search for Home on Wednesday & Thursday, May 28th & 29th at 7:00 pm; Friday & Saturday, May 30th & 31st at 8:30 pm; with a late show on Saturday at 11:00 pm. Endearing, brilliantly funny and always entertaining, Katie gives us a peek into the life of a performer juggling Hollywood, Broadway and starting a family. The show features the music of Big Joe Turner, Julia Lee, Duke Ellington, Joe Liggins, Lavern Baker and Nellie Lutcher, and is steeped in the tradition of speakeasy shows that became popular during the rise of the Harlem Renaissance, performed in after-hour joints all across the midwest and east coast. Sugar dancing poppas, hip shaking mommas and Saturday night boogie-woogie men, Big Otis Jump Up Blues Revue is bound to have you jumping right out of your seat. NYC: 23 at 54: NYU GRADUATE MUSICAL THEATRE WRITING PROGRAM SHOWCASE

NYU's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program presents a late-night showcase at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Thursday, May 29th at 11:30 pm. The show features original songs from new musicals written by students this year. In the second annual showcase of its kind, GMTWP's Cycle 23 will entertain you with everything from R&B to New Orleans jazz, British humor to social issues, singing axe murderers to singing animals and office equipment. There is truly something for everyone in this show. It's musical theatre at its best. NYC: SIMON GREEN: SO, THIS THEN IS LIFE

59E59 Theaters presents the US premiere of SIMON GREEN: SO, THIS THEN IS LIFE, created by Simon Green and David Shrubsole, performed by Mr. Green, with musical arrangement and accompaniment by Mr. Shrubsole. The show explores paths un-trod, mistakes repeated, and ridiculous responses to an ever-changing world. Simon Green and David Shrubsole cast their gaze over life's rude awakenings. Reteaming after their Drama Desk-nominated Traveling Light, Green and Shrubsole concoct a theatrical marriage of words and music that transports audiences to a former, more innocent incarnation of themselves. Simon Green: So, This Then Is Life begins performances at 59E59 THEATERS (59 East 59th Street, NYC - 212-279-4200) on Tuesday, May 20th for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 1st. NYC: MEGAN HILTY AT THE CAFE CARLYLE

Broadway's Megan Hilty will perform at THE CAFE CARLYLE (35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-744-1600) on Tuesdays through Saturday, May 27th through June 7th at 8:45 pm, with a late show on Saturdays at 10:45 pm. Megan Kathleen Hilty is an American musical theatre and television actress, and singer. She rose to prominence for her roles in several Broadway musicals including her performance as Glinda in Wicked and her portrayal of Doralee Rhodes in 9 to 5: The Musical. Her best known role was as Ivy Lynn on the 2012-2013 musical-drama TV series Smash, on which she sang many original songs, including the Grammy Award-nominated "Let Me Be Your Star".
