NYC: JAVIER RUIBAL & DAVID BROZA AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
Vocalist /composer /arranger /guitarist Javier Ruibal and singer/songwriter David Broza will perform at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Saturday, May 31st at 7:00 pm. Javier Ruibal offers an exquisite and rigorous commitment to integration in the social story that coexists. His songs are both beautiful and supportive, intimate and participatory, personal and universal. Israeli superstar David Broza has been considered one of the most dynamic and vibrant performers in the singer/songwriter world. Broza was awarded a Spanish royal medal of honor, by the King of Spain, Juan Carlos I, for his longtime contribution to Israel-Spain relations and his promotion of tolerance. Shana Farr brings her new show 'In The Still of The Night' to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Saturday, May 31st at 7:30pm. She is joined on stage by award-winning music director, Jon Weber and cellist, Adam Fisher. 'In The Still Of The Night' takes the audience on a musical and poetical journey through the music, lyrics & verse of two of the 20th century's greatest and most prolific songwriters - Noel Coward and Cole Porter. An evening of wit and flamboyance, chic and cheek, urbanity and elegance. Songs such as "Zigeuner", "Begin The Beguine", "Love For Sale", and "Just One Of Those Things" along with other favorites such as "What Is This Thing Called Love?", "My Heart Belongs To Daddy", "Never Again", and "If Love Were All" help tell a story both sung and spoken with words by these two great men. Join Lady Winifred (Dewey Chaffee) and her best gal pal Miss Didi Panache (Douglas Edwards) with their unique brand of Vegas inspired, over-the-top, raunchy, improvised comedy at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Saturday, May 31st at 9:30 pm. The duo challenges the threshold of each audience by proving that absolutely no subject is taboo. Douglas and Dewey are a married couple. They've been together nearly a decade. NYC: NEW 50 SHADES PARODY AT SOPHIE'S BROADWAY
A new unauthorized musical parody of the international best-selling book "50 Shades of Grey" will be presented atSOPHIE'S NEW YORK (318 West 53rd Street, NYC - 212-757-2323), beginning with a preview performance on Monday May 12th at 7:00 pm. The show is written, directed and choreographed by Tricia Brouk, with original songs by Andrew David Sotomayor, "50 Shades of F****d Up" bursts on the scene from out of nowhere and will be the only unauthorized musical parody north of Times Square. The show officially opens on Monday May 19th at 7:00 pm with performances scheduled for Saturdays at 7:00 & 10:00 pm and Mondays at 7:00 pm through through Monday, June 7th. The cast of four includes Jenna Dallacco as Anastasia, Ben McHugh as Grey, and- in multiple roles - Krista DeMille and Cedric Leiba, Jr. as everyone's Inner Goddess. A veteran burlesque director and choreographer Brouk has directed and choreographed "Broadway Varietease," "Erotic Broadway: Vintage Variety," and "Tokio Confidential" at Atlantic Stage 2. In addition to "The Zombies: A Musical" her choreography credits run the gamut from television to film. Sotomayor, who leads a band of two, is also responsible for the arrangements. His music directing credits include "Cutman: a boxing musical," "Frankie and Debbie: Live at the Martini Lounge," and "Erotic Broadway: Vintage Variety." His composed the scores for "Bent" and the short films "Cuba 1961: A Love Story" and "Timeless." NYC: KATIE FINNERAN IN IT MIGHT BE YOU - A FUNNY LADY'S SEARCH FOR HOME
Katie Finneran, the two-time Tony Award-winning Broadway and TV star, will make her cabaret debut at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) with the show It Might Be You - A Funny Lady's Search for Home on Wednesday & Thursday, May 28th & 29th at 7:00 pm; Friday & Saturday, May 30th & 31st at 8:30 pm; with a late show on Saturday at 11:00 pm. Endearing, brilliantly funny and always entertaining, Katie gives us a peek into the life of a performer juggling Hollywood, Broadway and starting a family. Singing an eclectic array of songs and sharing extraordinary backstage stories, Katie takes us on a comical and poignant pilgrimage to her greatest destination yet: home. Expect to hear songs ranging from Stephen Sondheim to Ingrid Michaelson, with homages to Betty Hutton and Julie Andrews in between. The evening will be directed by Katie's longtime pal, Broadway's Andrea Burns (The Nance, In the Heights) and will feature musical direction by Steve Marzullo. Katie Finneran co-starred in The Michael J. Fox Show on NBC. She most recently starred on Broadway as Miss Hannigan in the Tony-nominated revival of Annie. In 2010, Finneran won a Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Award for her performance in the first Broadway revival of the musical Promises, Promises. 59E59 Theaters presents the US premiere of SIMON GREEN: SO, THIS THEN IS LIFE, created by Simon Green and David Shrubsole, performed by Mr. Green, with musical arrangement and accompaniment by Mr. Shrubsole. The show explores paths un-trod, mistakes repeated, and ridiculous responses to an ever-changing world. Simon Green and David Shrubsole cast their gaze over life's rude awakenings. Reteaming after their Drama Desk-nominated Traveling Light, Green and Shrubsole concoct a theatrical marriage of words and music that transports audiences to a former, more innocent incarnation of themselves. Simon Green: So, This Then Is Life begins performances at 59E59 THEATERS (59 East 59th Street, NYC - 212-279-4200) on Tuesday, May 20th for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 1st. Simon's cabarets, with musical director and arranger, David Shrubsole, are familiar in London's major cabaret venues and have played New York at Feinstein's, The Metropolitan Room, Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall and the 59E59 TheatersPress opening is Thursday, May 22 at 7:15 pm.
