TONIGHT'S CABARET PICK IN NYC: MARY FOSTER CONKLIN ("LIFE IS A BITCH") SONGS BY FRAN LANDESMAN

TONIGHT'S CABARET PICK IN NYC: MARY FOSTER CONKLIN ("LIFE IS A BITCH") SONGS BY FRAN LANDESMAN

Mary Foster Conklin returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC)212-206-0440) with her acclaimed show LIFE IS A BITCH, a collection of songs by Fran Landesman. Performances are scheduled for Thursday, September 26th at 7:00 pm; Friday & Saturday, October 27th & 28th at 9:30 pm; and Wednesday, October 9th at 9:30 pm. She is joined on stage by John diMartino / piano, Ed Howard / Marco Panascia / bass, and special vocal guest John diPinto. Landesman, the self-proclaimed "poet laureate of lovers and losers," is best remembered as the lyricist of The Nervous Set, the world's first (and only) beatnik musical, which premiered in St. Louis in 1959 and later flopped on Broadway. Two numbers from the show, "All the Sad Young Men" and "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most" were widely recorded and became jazz standards. The evening will consist of a musical assortment of Landesman collaborators, including Tommy Wolf, Alec Wilder, Bob Dorough, Roy Kral, Simon Wallace and John Simon, with a special nod to past singers who were champions of Fran's songs, like Jackie and Roy and Suzannah McCorkle. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
